What Magazine Articles are You Reading Now?

Since there was no explicit mention of magazines in the channel description, I’ll use my literary license to impose upon fellow Pit members.

Since I retired, and more recently subscribed to Apple New+, I find myself exposed to and reading more magazine articles than I could have imagined a few short years ago. The only print magazines I receive and read are The Atlantic, National Geographic and AARP. The remaining ones I read online from Apple News+.

I’m interested in hearing what other pit members are reading in magazines. Since just about every other article in many magazines is about politics or elections I’ll remind all members to remain apolitical with their posts, replies and comments…and images, respecting the AR policies and traditions.

With that said, let’s read ‘em and post about ‘em.

The only magazine I read is usually the New Yorker. I really enjoyed their food-related series a few years ago. Here is a great piece on creating a new apple variety. I used to have a subscription for the 2.5 hours of daily train rides pre-COVID times but I let it lapse. I find reading it in the app is much easier on the eyes than the print edition with its super-small type. I have thought again about renewing it but haven’t got around to it.

We don't get any magazines delivered to us other than The BBQ News which I like a lot. A couple of our local grocery stores have free magazines with recipes and tips that are seasonal so they are kind of fun reads too.

One of the very many things I'm looking forward to in retirement is the time to read for pleasure. I get through maybe one book per year, if that, and typically read the same five pages every night in bed, before I doze off... I have so much work-related reading to do that by the time I get whatever scant free time I can pry loose, going to read something rarely rises to the top of the list. Much more often, I'll play or listen to music, or plan out some kind of cook... Five years, nine months to go!

The current issue of National Geographic features several articles on space, including many about NASA missions. Apparently, one photographer from the NG was assigned to the 12 year JWST telescope build and he went full term.
