I'd love to hear if she has any highlights/must-makes -- I'm equally intrigued and horrified by some of the recipes I come across in old community/church cookbooks!

SheilaAnn If you haven't seen James Lilek's Gallery of Regrettable Food you need to. He takes the old mid-century food company fliers and recipe guides and does a great job of ridiculing them: https://www.lileks.com/institute/gallery/index.html

That was a fun read. I can remember some very odd food in the 60's like loaves and such. On a related side note, last year I bought a copy of Thomas Jefferson's cookbook off of Amazon. I haven't tried any recipes yet, but there are some "interesting" ones in there.

Ya oughta check out Townsends on YouTube. He delves into the 18th century way of life & much of it is cooking I’ve tried quite a few cooks that he has posed. It’s usually pretty good. Actually, one of my specialties “at camp” has come to be “buttered eggs”. It has been a hit a few times.

Ahhh, they are English style eggs as opposed to French or American style eggs. Huskee yep i make em. I like American style, my wife likes French, and of course my kids like English, lol.

Sounds like I am team FireMan I make scrambled eggs with a lot of butter. Two eggs:1 T butter. Cook very slow.
And recently, I have been doing this: crack the eggs in the pan, gently scramble the whites without disturbing the yolks. When set, pull from the heat and lightly stir in the yolks until set again. Heaven!

I remember reading through some of my grandma's recipe & diet books when I was a kid in the 80s and would go visit her. I don't remember specifics of course, but lots of things seemed to involve Jello, ketchup, and Spam (maybe not always together but surely a couple were) and even as a kid this wasn't ok, not ok at all.
