    Paprika for Windows

OK so I've been hiding under a rock and just poked my head out, but I didn't realize that Paprika had Mac and Windows versions as well as the iOS App. I'm such hard core user on my phone but was wondering if I could somehow access my recipes on my computer (which I'm on 12 hours a day anyway). Lo and behold they do have the computer version. (If someone has already posted this then never mind)

I downloaded it and it seems to work pretty much the same as the app. What's nice is you can see more at one given time which is nice in the overview. Other nice thing is it Cloud Syncs automatically with other devices, so my phone uplinks to my computer and vise versa seamlessly. The downside is you do have to spend another $30+ dollars for the computer version.

That said, even with having paid for both, I'm really pleased. What a great COOKING world we live in !!!

Been using it on my computer from day 1. So easy to research and download recipes.

Do you sync with the phone app?

Troutman yes it syncs automatically. I think when I bought the phone app an ad popped up for the Mac version so I bought it. It is pretty seamless across the phone, iPad, and Mac Book.

I use it on PC and tablet. PC for researching and downloading, tablet for cooking. Some things are in different places between the two like pinning a recipe and were the pinned recipe is located on the tablet app.

The price tag for the desktop version made me a little irritated. That and they don’t have a dark theme, they said it’s coming in an update… someday.

That being said I love having it on my surface pro. Props up like a cookbook

Using a computer keyboard is priceless when you need to manually enter all those old hand-me-down family recipes from the 3x5 notecards your Mom used. Or maybe you're not that old

I recently found my great grandmother Nancy Jane's dill pickle recipe. It was in my grandma's towering pile of recipe clippings. Yep, handwritten by G'gma in pencil on a piece of scratch paper.

Draznnl my wife wanted to get some recipes from my mother and discovered that her measurements were in tips of a large spoon, shakes and gurgles for liquids. She taught me to cook when she broke her big toe. Since I needed to show her everything from beginning to end of the process, I cook by sight.

I’ve been using the windows version for several years as well. If I recall right, they also put it on 1/2 off sale same time they do their apps in November. But I love how all syncs together across all devices and platforms. At one point, there was a plug in for the browsers, not sure if that’s still there.

Troutman , you think YOU were living under a rock - I didn't even know what this was. "Paprika for Windows"??? I like to sprinkle paprika on food, don't really see...oh! It's a computer program!

Now I have to see if it's something I need...

You'll love using it, should you choose to get it. It makes recipe collecting so much easier. There are a couple other Paprika topics here on The Pit. You may want to take a peek at them if you're looking for a rationalization to purchase.

I hate paying for apps. I paid for this one. Across all devices.

I've also been using Paprika for Windows (in addition to the iOS version) since Day 1. It's so much easier to edit recipes and add notes on the PC as compared to the iPad or iPhone. Everything syncs almost instantly between platforms.

I often enter my Microsoft Word recipes onto a blog site that I set up for that purpose. Then it's easy to use that URL to download them into Paprika.

There are a couple of things I don't like about the PC version as compared to the iOS version--on the PC you can't see how your recipes will print out. You still can print one or two columns, for example, and use all of the print option bells/whistles that Paprika provides except for the preview page which comes up immediately in iOS but doesn't appear at all in the PC format. The print preview is handy for changing a few things around (like deleting the Nutrition info) to avoid the dreaded one or two line second page.

The other thing I wish the PC version had was a Select option on the recipes page so one could do a batch delete.

Otherwise, I think the iOS and PC formats are pretty much the same.

That's when we picked up the desktop version too. Was a steal at 1/2 price, to be able to use it across all devices in the house.

Troutman I bought the iOS version - for my iPhone and iPad, and also the Windows and Mac versions, since my desktop is a Mac but my current laptop is Windows. It's awesome having all the recipes available on any device I have handy. I got them all on sale for like 1/2 price I think. My wife saw me using it so I put it on her iPad and iPhone (she won't use it on the computer). All platforms appear to let you install as many copies as you need - I've got it on 6 devices right now total.

I did not realize I might be able to install it on my laptop. I figured it was limited to one PC. I might even try installing it on my old Android phone and keeping it in the kitchen.

Attjack each Paprika license can be installed on up to five computers running the OS you purchased. The Mac version handles this using family sharing (an Apple thing), Windows does activation using a key, and you can deactivate and reactivate as needed using a form on their web page if you exceed the 5 computer limit.

This might be Mac specific, I don't know, but one nice thing you can do if you want to send a recipe to someone who has Paprika is to export it in Paprika format. They can then just doubleclick that file and it imports into their Paprika app.

To do this, double click on the recipe to open it, then click the sharing icon (the curved arrow, see below). Choose export and a destination.

If you want to export an entire category, just go to the recipe listing, then go to File, Export and you'll see something like this (ignore the name in the save as, that can be anything). Make sure you choose Paprika format in the format dropdown:

The Facebook, Twitter and open in New window seem to be just in Mac. I can't find those on my PC or Android versions. But I also can't find things in the fridge either so they might be there.

For those that can wait, they usually have a 50% off sale around Black Friday.
