It seems to me that opening up the grill will increase airflow and feed oxygen to the flames. Just saying.
Traeger recommends keeping the grill closed in case of a fire.
Had this happen on my P&S pellet smoker. It turned out to be a failed fan and then a failed controller. I had to gut the electronics and re-build the thing. It was only about 4-1/2 years old. $350 later I sold the thing, will never own a pellet smoker again.👎
I had an explosion in my OG! What happened was a unfired start, which dumped a pile of pellets in the firepot. Instead of cleaning the excess out, I just restarted the grill. It made a big boom and opened the door of the grill. Scared me inside the house.
After some conversations and a few emails combined with my dawdling and wishing for a magic wand, it looks like the cause has been found. Don’t blame Yoder or harp about the inherent flaws of pellet smokers. Nope. Just blame me. It appears I didn’t put the burn grate in right after I cleaned the smoker in preparation for this cook. I’m just glad I got it figured out before we leave for vacation in a couple of days. Getting out of this swamp for a little while. Heading to Napa and Yosemite.
