    Extra smoke device for traegar?

    Hello friends,

While I love cooking w/ my KBQ stick burner, I greatly appreciate the plug, play, walk away convenience of the Traegar. I especially appreciate it on busy todo list weekends.

That being said, I find the smoke ring and flavor is significantly less than the stick burner.

I have seen ads for various gadgets that claim that they add additional natural smoke flavor to pellet cookers. Have any of you used any of these? Can you recommend any of them?

What are pros and cons of these devices?

    Thanks in advance.

    Respectfully,
    JD

I use one of these smoke tubes. I bought the cheapest one and it works fine. It will not give you a profile of the KBQ or a stick burner, but it does add some additional smoke to the mix.

I have actually gone to putting a few light coals of Kingsford into the cooking chamber. I just light them with a torch, then throw them in a cast iron pan. My pellet rig really struggles in the cold, so the extra heat really does not matter. Plus, just a a few briquettes isn't that much extra heat anyway.

I use the smoke tube also. Works pretty well. I haven't had a stick burner....yet (#MCS) so hope someday I can give better suggestions.

Plug it in to a 220v line. It'll smoke.

sorry. I'm not able to help.

I greatly appreciate the plug, play, walk-away convenience of the Traeger. Agreed
      AKA Smoking Easy Bake Oven.

It is easy to produce a good product with a pellet grill. Friends think I'm a pit master---LOL
But I am only a Pellet Head.

I have a smoke tube, and it adds more smoke flavor.

On my gasser, I used to use one those metal boxes you put wood chips in (https://grillio.com/coyote-stainless-steel-smoker-box-csbx) (not this particular one, got mine at Lowe's I think) -- it added a little smoke flavor. I'd fill it with soaked (I know) wood chips and put it directly on one of the burners set on low (not sure if a pellet grill would have someplace similar you could run it). It'd run for maybe an hour and a half. Eventually, I started putting it on one side and one of those smoke tubes with pellets on the other. It was better than nothing. On a pellet, I'd think it would work a little better as gassers are not designed to be air tight.

I took one of those BrisketU courses a while back, and the instructor suggested using a smoke tube, but filling it with wood chips instead of pellets, so that's what I do now when using the pellet grill.

I've run 180° for the first couple of hours, and it helps some.

I have used a smoke tube loaded with pellets. It helped, but not as much as I was looking for.

I have used a smoke tube loaded with woodchips and a hunk of charcoal in the bottom to keep the wood chips going. I got good results from that on my Camp Chef. It's a little fiddlly to get going, but gives you a much improved smoke profile.

My son ran a Big Kahuna from Smoke Daddy on the same Camp Chef, and that is less fiddly than wood chips in a smoke tube, but also a more costly solution.

I gave the Camp Chef to my kid and bought a LSG pooper, and solved all my smoke profile problems. This is one of the more extreme fixes, but it definitely works.

You are never going to get KBQ quality out of a pellet pooper, but you can get something that is pretty good enough. The more $ you put into it, moe gooder it gets.

Now that is extreme! It is twice the value of the Weber Searwood XL 600 I won. Now if I could just…!

LA Pork Butt It was only hard until the check cleared. I had zero regrets once it was paid for.

Ditto on smoke tube in the Traeger. I have 2, a 12 inch for long cooks and a six inch for short cooks.
