    Using Traeger in the rain?

    Hello friends,
We have a guest coming from to visit from back home (north east). I’d love to smoke a couple tri tips for her & our neighbors. The problem is, nothing but rain in the forecast. Do I need to put up a tent / awning, or can I use it in the rain?
    Thanks in advance,
    JD

    I don’t have a traeger, but I always put up a canopy if I’m smoking in rain/snow.
It just makes for a more pleasant experience if you don’t have to worry about you or the food getting directly rained on. My.02

A patio umbrella will do the trick.

        Thanks everyone!
I just decided to move my Traeger into our atrium. It has three walls that reach to the “ceiling”, one wall reaches 1/2 up, and has a metal screen to the ceiling. The half closest to the house has a solid ceiling over it, the half that is further away has only beams and is otherwise open. I use my propane grill out there against the back outter wall. I’ll put the Traeger next to the propane grill.
That way it or I won’t get pounded with rain while I’m cooking. Otherwise it’ll have a cover on it.

Should work well. Does anyone think I should have any concerns about that set up?

        Respectfully,
        JD

        Thanks @jfmorris,
I also have a large ceiling fan that I’ll run on high while I’m cooking to help move any smoke up abd away from the house.

My pellet cooker is a Camp Chef. I have often run it in the rain and snow. I keep the electrical plug off the ground and tucked under the cooker to keep it dry. I will usually place a plywood scrap on top the pellet hopper as a "roof overhang" to keep the control panel dry.

I have used my Traeger in the rain. But a BIG BUT--not my preferred weather for grilling.
I have had it rain on some cooks. I make sure it dries out between showers.
I try to avoid grilling in the rain.
Remember the pellets need to be kept dry. I use Traeger Pellets from Costco.
I am really thinking to use Royal Oak Charcoal pellets--water resistant.

Just remember that those charcoal pellets aren’t wood … they are charcoal. All heat; no flavor.

MBMorgan Okay, the hypo is "Real Charcoal flavor"
I will keep that in mind.

            Thanks bbqLuv,
I’ve been thinking this through. I can place the cooker so the pellet hopper and controller are under the roof, and the exhaust chimney is under the open roof area. Once again, I’ll have the large ceiling fan on high, helping to clear any smoke.
That should provide some extra protection for the pellets, controller, etc..
