Struggling to Connect Traeger to WIFI

I am at my son-in-laws for the weekend and am doing a couple of pork butts on his Traeger Pellet grill. I tried to connect to the wifi using the Traeger App. I followed the App step by step instructions to the point where it says Grill is connecting to wifi. Then when the App tries to connect it says "Something Went Wrong. Grill couldn't find the network". My son-in-law has tried connecting using his Google App phone and ended up getting the same result. The wifi is 2.4 Ghz. so that's not the issue.

I did a search on Youtube to see if there was a solution out there. I found folks who had the same problem but no one posted a way to solve it. Has anyone from PitMaster Club Nation had this issue with their Traeger and if so how did you fix it?

    Thanks and have fun!

It may be too far from the network router or whatever he has that send/receives WIFI signals.
I had to add a repeater halfway between my grill and my router at last house to make it work.

Added note: WIFI in grills seems to be very low power, so not good for being far from router.

I had problems back in 2020 when we first got the grill. The app was buggy back then. Our grill is near a router now as that was a problem. I also made sure my iPhone iOS was updated. Even when I had issues I would remove the grill from my app and start all over again.

Meathead posted a Twitter comment the other day about having the Dickens of a time comnecting traeger to wifi. He eventually did it, but said it wasnt easy

I had to put longer antennas on a couple grills to get them to connect. One grill needed a range extender too.

A few networks are currently suffering DDoS attacks, Traeger may have their stuff sourced through one of those networks.

bep35 Connection problems aren't unusual and the cause is often hard to identify. Have you called Traeger to trouble shoot?

Okay, here is an update. My son-in-law deleted the App from his phone and re-installed it. For whatever reason that solved the problem for him and he was able to get his phone and the grill to connect. No other changes to the wifi or router.

He did have a wifi booster close to the grill so a weak signal wasn't the issue. Thanks for those of you who suggested that as a possible solution.

I never did get the grill to connect with my iPhone but that's okay as I only wanted to use if for the one cook. And he probably didn't want me controlling the grill from 2.5 hours away. "Hey, I fired up the grill. Throw a chicken on and we'll be there for dinner!"

                Thanks everyone.

Some devices do not play well with boosters and such, but it sounds like the issue may have just been a corrupted app install. Glad it's sorted 😀
