Old Traeger, New Enthusiast

Some of you might have seen my comment a few weeks ago about giving my trusty old Traeger to one of my trusty old friends. He is not much of a cook and never an outdoor cook, but I gave him a little primer on starting and running the pellet pooper and pointed him to AR.

Well, he's doing his first cook today and he and I have been texting and calling most of the day. He's doing a pork shoulder and a rack of ribs from his son's backup fair hog and I just love hearing the excitement in his voice! He's been consulting AR for days and has already got a nice whopping dose of MCS!

I think we have a new enthusiast and I wouldn't be surprised if he jumped into the Pitmaster Club. I'm pretty happy and pretty proud!

Ineed! I loaned my old OLD Traeger BBQ124 to a buddy a couple summers ago - it is still sitting at his house, but now he has a RecTeq 590 and it looks like today I'm taking him to pick up a new Blackstone 36" griddle! His wife has the pickup (and the kids) up in KCMO, so I'm lending out my Tahoe to help him snag a Blackstone on sale before they're gone.


Funny, the 36" 4-burner Blackstone Pro griddle with hood, cab and drawers is $329. They still had 3 when I was there yesterday afternoon.

Yet, the 28" 2-burner Blackstone Pro with hood and cabinet is $379.

Go figure.

So it turns out that after we got the BIG Blackstone to the register to check out, it rings up at like $597! I showed them a picture I had taken of the display with 3 of these units sitting there 3 days ago with a sign for $327 in front of them (timestamped since I sent it to my friend) and since they'd been showing it for 3 days that way - they gave it to him for $327! Man, it's nice, too. This version was almost all assembled in box - Thank God!

Spent a couple hours out there with him yesterday getting it all set up and all seasoned, it really is a nice unit. This Pro version has a nice cabinet and a better hood and shelves than mine. The hood has a heat shield inside that keeps it quite cool. It's a nice unit.
