if your grill can handle it, sometimes I use pam olive oil spray to initiate a flare up on one side of the grill. Can't be normal pam or it likely won't ignite.
How'd you sear it? I just received a Traeger Ironwood 885 for my birthday and am still reading the literature, but I can't imagine how Traeger's advice to lower the grate closer to the firebox would do the trick with no open flame.
