Traeger wants to help you sear A steak

‘A’ being the key word (see pic pkadare shared below):

I was thinking I might sell my whole cooker collection and buy this, but the wife already put the kibosh on it.

That’s extra too I’m sure, rebranded with an orange logo, and marked up 4x.

Use black swan BBQ Sauce instead. I hear it is a great personal lubricant.

I am a Big Traeger fan, but I think you are correct.
They do look amazing. Amazingly to mush.

You can buy an induction cook top for a 100 bucks, that leaves 3699 for the smoker. Not here, no way.

I just took another look at it. Could you get any smaller and cheaper on the casters? Maybe a front loading shelf is an option, if not, that's not good or handy.

    That’s a hard NO here.

Now on second thought, there are people with more money than brains.

Man, that’s Komodo Kamado territory, that’s custom built stick burner territory. I understand the consistent results and convenience of pellets, but for that cash I would rather have something more permanent and enduring, with no electronics to fail and no moving parts. Put all the money into perfection, and build it like a brick outhouse.

          Yup on the no electronics!

I spent about $1,200 for my RT-700 delivered. So if i add a induction burner, say $100 max, I’m there for about 1/3 the cost. Hmmm.

did you see RT quietly rolled out a new grill? If it's successful I see the RT700 line going away. It's a full stainless 590 with a shelf for barely more than the 700... and still half the price of this new Traeger even if you added a med range dual induction at 150 bones

Well, the folly of spending that kind of money to only be able to sear one steak at a time is entertaining, but it get me to thinking.

I wonder if someone could come up with a way to make an induction flat top. You know, a really big one with multiple burners for varied cooking zones...

That kind of defeats the purpose of a flat top though as you couldn't cook any food directly on the flat top surface, everything you wanted to cook would need to be placed in some kind of pot or pan. Build a covered gazebo, run a 220 volt line and install an electric range with an induction stove top.

pkadare I'm thinking induction elements sitting directly under a thick stainless cooking surface. Pretty sure it could work. No need for the normal ceramic top they put on cooktops.

Ahh, ok, I misunderstood, thanks for setting me straight. My lovely wife just left for Florida so the setting straight job is open for the next 3 weeks. 🤔

It looks pretty, but good lookers without the right stuff have caused a heap of aggravation before (a couple of times in my younger days ), so I'll take that experience to heart and say No.

Can certainly buy a much better smoker for $3800! Hard pass!

I know that the Memphis pellet is seemly overly priced... but I bought stainless Pro years ago at a great discount for less than that one pictured, and it has a sear function inside the grill where the pellet flames lick the steaks.
The fire /pellet box has 2 drop in plates to choose from One for the smoking that's solid and one that's perforated for searing. Guessing that the plates are about 12" . I put the grill on 650 and sear fast and rotate steaks around. I occasionally have to do 8 fillet sized steaks- if we have company that is. and it works well for me. I miss the real flavor of a charcoal but when time is short, it's good to have It's stainless and used to be made in America. - not so sure about now unfortunately... I plan on using the HB now as much as I can.

correct, no longer made in the US... but still a better "value" than what was released yesterday

When Memphis was built in the US, it was more what you expected for this price range, 250lbs of stainless steel. I had a Memphis Pro for a while, it was a nice grill, but didn’t fit what I wanted very well.
