Just had my first ever flame out on my Rec Tec. Couldn't figure out the problem by myself so I called Rec Tec Customer Support. The help that I received was excellent as they had me pushing control button combinations to verify that everything was working as expected (auger turning, temp probe aligned, etc.). We came to the conclusion that there were no pellets being fed to the fire pot. I removed all of the pellets from the hopper until I could see the auger tunnel which was filled and clogged with pellet dust. Vacuumed out all of the dust and I am cooking again! I believe that the problem occurred because I last filled the pellet hopper by inverting the bag of pellets and pouring the contents (including the dust in the bottom of the bag) into the hopper. In the future I will fill the hopper by scooping out the pellets after shaking the bag to get the dust to settle to the bottom.
Thanks to the folks at Rec Tec for their excellent support!
