I went to Ace Hardware to check out lawn mowers, but of course I had to take a quick pass through the BBQ department. As I turned into the aisle the unmistakable profile of the Recteq Bullseye jumped out at me. I was absolutely shocked!
They’re not in focus, but those are Recteq pellets stacked in the background.
Around the corner was either an RT-1070 or RT-590, but it wasn’t labeled.
Has anyone else seen a Recteq at Ace? I was at a different store a couple hours later, and they didn’t have any on display.
I haven’t seen any at Ace yet but WA seems behind the curve on BBQ. Only now that it’s almost May have the mythical Kirkland briquettes showed up at Costco here.🙄 🔥🔥🐿️

I was thinking the same thing. One of the things that keeps me from buying stuff is not seeing it at the store in the BBQ area. I’ll have to have the talk with myself now before I go to Ace. 🔥🔥🐿️
I can see it now. MsTwiggy havin a conversation with herself: “Self, ya know ya has ta buy a cooker, I mean it’s the MCS thing. I also know to resist is futile. I am sur glad I joined Amazing Wibs! 👍🍣🍷🍟🥓🥩🔥🔥🍳🍔🥜🔥”.
There are several reasons I need a pellet cooker. Smoky brownies, to hold brisket, to cook brisket. . . Everything I’ve seen WayneT do (can you say 🦀crab 🥮cake) 🔥🔥🐿️
Awwww MsTwiggy you made me blush. ☺️ I’ve never been constrained by what’s possible but inspired by what’s unusual. Don’t forget smoked, hard-boiled eggs! 😉
Our Ace doesn't carry much of this type of stuff (very small store), but the website shows the RT1000 smoker grill, the RT600 pellet griddle grill, and the Bullseye 380. Didn't even know Recteq offered a pellet griddle grill.
I don’t know about this one. It means that reqtec prices now have to favor in additional profits shared with the store so higher smoker prices. Personally, I think they did fine selling direct and presumably lower prices. I recognize they may not be the best value in pellets but they certainly staked out their niche. Hopefully, we don’t get another price increase to pay for this effort.
I would be willing to bet their profit margins are well over 40%, the biggest thing holding grills like MAK and such back is it's a lot of money for a product you can't see first. Yoder is in some stores and is more popular because of it. LSG has the benefit of being scarce with their wait list, but at some point the "I can't touch it" is gonna be a factor in their sales. I think a small chain partnership is perfectly smart on RT's part.
Not necessarily. There’s a huge difference in freight cost between shipping individual units straight to customers and shipping truckloads to Ace’s distribution centers.
I also agree with ItsAllGoneToTheDogs about the "can I touch it?" factor. I had a tough time deciding between Recteq and Grilla, and may well have chosen Recteq had they been available for inspection locally.
There’s a good chance they will get more expensive. I went charcoal shopping yesterday. B&B oak lump is $22.99 at my local Ace and $14.96 at my local Walmart. Yes I’m comparing apples to apples, same bag, same 20 pound weight. If I had been a Cowboy fan I saw a stack of it for I believe $8.97 at Walmart.
Interesting to see how this will help to grow their brand. As long as their quality and customer service are not effected by the volume, I see this as a positive move.
