Thinking of buying a pellet smoker for use as an outdoor oven. Wouldn't use the smoke feature (got other smokers). Can you run a pellet cooker without using the pellet system? Sounds like a no-brainer but I thought I read where the pellet system is integrated into the controls.
Scotch: Current favorite- The Arran (anything by them), Glenmorangie 12yr Lasanta, sherry cask finished. The Balvenie Double Wood, also like Oban 18yr, and The Glenlivet Nadurra (Oloroso sherry cask finished) among others. Neat please.

The heat source for the pellets grill is from the pellets and the air circulates through the cooker. So I don't think you can have no smoke. At least in the Yoder. Not sure if that's what you're asking.
Have a look at the Smoke Vault 24 for use as an outdoor oven. I first saw it in action on a hunting trip where the cook was using it for that same purpose. Once I got my pellet smoker our 24 is now used almost exclusively as an outdoor oven.
Gotta use pellets. It's the only source of heat in the thing.
Above 350 or so, there's not much smoke flavor from them, though. So, for most applications that you'd use an oven, still a solid choice, particularly with a mild or neutral flavored wood for the pellet.
Truth. Everything that you bend to do something else is not as good as the specialist. It's why every cooker has it's true purpose, and works for other stuff.
