the Silverback has a similar thing, but I dunno how thick the top metal is. The OG Grilla is THICK and heavy. Holds the temp very nicely once it gets up.
No better endorsement for wind than using it in Chicago, on a second floor balcony, in the winter!!

Are pellet grills sealed better than a kettle? On a pellet grill it looks like the two places wind could blow in are at the lid/door and the chimney.
I live in Iowa and it's pretty windy here year round too. They way pellet grills sense and feed the pot makes it so they can pretty easily overcome the conditions. What I've noticed when it's really windy is that you first use more pellets, you might struggle to reach max temps if you're trying to 'grill' vs smoke, and that it can make the temps off a little from side to side in the grill. The double wall or insulation wraps help a lot with this, but it's better yet if you can position the grill to break the wind like others have suggested.

A cheaper grill with a poor controller might have problems with flame out if you tried to smoke at 150 or 180 in extreme cold and wind, but the ones you've mentioned should do fine.

My Rec Tec Bull does great in the winter and in wind. I bought the winter cover just to be safe.

I like this item on the grillagrills.com website - personally I like the idea of double walled construction versus a welding blanket over my smoker...

Will the Silverbac maintain cooking temperatures in cold weather?

You bet! The Silverbac and Grilla are both wearing an Internal Steel Thermal Jacket. This heavy-duty design features a double wall 14 gauge steel liner for more efficient cooking when the temperature drops below 55° F: up to 33% more efficient than single wall pellet smokers (which most are by the way). That means: – Burn less fuel in cold weather – No need for thermal blankets – Full range of operating temperature – Eliminates messy, smoky blanket storage in the warmer months – All season performance of grills costing twice as much.

I have cooked on my MAK with rain coming down sideways numerous times... never an issue.
