New From Sunny Arizona, New Traeger or Yoder?

New from sunny Arizona, been smoking for about 15 years. I have a Traeger 150 that gets plenty of use. Thinking about up grading to a Yoder or the new Traeger Timberline 1300. Always looking for some input on that.

Welcome from Maryland. My only experience is with my Yoder 640 which I can highly recommend. They recently did some upgrades that many seem to like.

Welcome to The Pitmaster Club! Thank you for your support. Traeger has come a long way recently in keeping up with their competition in tech advancements, and Yoder sure has made a great name for themselves in the pellet world as well... I have a Yoder stickburner and a Grilla pellet grill but beyond that I have no hands-on experience myself with either device you'e asking about. Happy choosing!

Since you’re new here, please check out our homework assignment post for new members, it contains a few how-tos and please-dos. This will help you learn your way around so you can get the best experience from our forum.

Welcome from Winnipeg. Based on what I have read, both are good but I would get the Yoder.

Welcome from the Great State of Texas !! Both the new line from Traeger and the Yoders are great cookers. Both perform equally well when all is said and done. What you probably need to ask yourself is for that price point, you will be spending over $1000, are you buying something for the long term that will last? Although the new Traeger line is much improved, all the models I've seen in person still seem to be built out of thinner gage metal. The Yoders typically are 1/4" plate or at least 10 ga. steel.

Over time what that means is the cooker will suffer fatigue from heat and grease build up which hastens deterioration and rust. Thinner metal will fail on you a lot sooner than thicker obviously.

As far as the mechanism and the moving parts, all pellets are subject to some sort of maintenance and eventual failure. Do some research into warranty, availability of parts and customer service. That's also going to be important to your long term ownership.

Good luck in your decision and again welcome to the Pit. We hope to see some of your cooks in the very near future !!!

FYI 10 ga metal is 9/64th thick. Can't help myself, retired S/M guy

Welcome. I agree with Troutman . I've owned a Traeger and then a Rec Tec. Though Traeger makes good grills, they are way over priced. For a few bucks more you can get a much better grill in Rec Tec or Yoder and others. I have since moved on from pellet grills in favor of thermostatically controlled kettles. They are far superior to pellet grills in my opinion.
