I am extremely grateful for the WiFi on my Rec Tec Stampede. Last weekend I have a medical emergency near the end of a cook with 2 briskets and 4 racks of ribs. Needless to say, I am freaking out over losing everything. WiFi saved the day allowing me to monitor meat temps and having a friend come by and pull the meat.

Everything turned out awesome like I never left. Without WiFi it would have been a total loss which makes it worth every $$$.

Wow, are you okay? Glad the WiFi did everything it was suppose to and the cook wasn't a complete loss.

I was initially looking at electric digital cabinet smokers from Bradley and Masterbuilt for their low price but quickly ruled them out because of the bad reviews and milder smoke flavour. Not to mention, I figured out that more baby-sitting would be required which brought me to the pellet grill. So, the choices locally are: Traeger (both low and high-end), Yoder, Green Mountain, Camp Chef, Pit Boss, Louisiana Grills, etc. Has anyone had any experience with Green Mountain, Pit Boss, or Louisiana Grills? How about the new Traegers? Of course the local dealer was really pushing the Green Mountain Grills and the new Traegers because he was selling them.

GMG Daniel was my intro into the low & slow world. Has been a steady, relatively idiot-proof cooker for 6 years with no issues. Liked it so much got the Davey Crocket for vacations, pool parties, & tailgating. GMG doesn’t have the bling others do but they are great cookers. Do I still dream or a Yoder or Rec Tex, sure, but I drive a F150 & still dream of a 911 Targa

Started with GMG Jim Bowie. I have since upgraded to the Yoder YS-640 and I am super pleased with it. It really is amazing. The Jim Bowie was nice, however, the control and precision of the Yoder is really something. Think it has a better smoke flavor too compared to the GMG. Think if you're on the fence you'll spend less on a GMG, however, the Yoder's build quality is superior and I enjoy the end product more than the GMG. That said the GMG was what got me started in the pellet world.

Ok I think I have narrowed down my choices. It's between the GMG DB or the Broil King Pellet 500 Pro or Smoke Pro XL. The only caveat is the BK models are so new not much is posted about them. Does anyone know anything about the BK models? Also, I've been reading about WiFi connection issues with the Daniel Boone I wonder if the Prime models have solved those issues.

Well, a decision has finally been made and we're going with the Broil King Pellet Pro XL. My mom and I went to our local dealer (Barbecue World here in Whitby for those who are curious) and had a look at a few of the pellet grills Green Mountain, Traeger, etc. She ended up liking the Broil King Smoke Pellet 500 which is the little brother to the XL but I have successfully convinced her that the XL's slightly larger capacity would be better. Not to mention, the reviews are slightly better. It's a bit of a risk but they have a 5 year warranty on the fire box and a 2 year warranty on everything else including paint. Pictures to follow once we take delivery of it which could be this week.

Oh man... I am excited. I have been waiting for someone to buy one of the new BK pellet munchers and provide us with some feedback

I've had the BK Smoke XL Pro for just under a month now and here are my thoughts. This thing is awesome it actually gets up to 600 F and holds it! I don't have any experience with any other pellet muncher, but I'm very happy with the flavour it gives to various foods we've tried. We've so far tried steaks, burgers, chicken, pork loin, cauliflower, and we just smoked a case of tomatoes and a case of peppers. Everything has turned out good. The only complaint I have is that it seems to take a long time to come up to temp whether it's from initial startup to changing temp during a cook. Not sure if it's due to the thick heavy gauge steel used in the cook chamber or maybe a glitch in the controller but once it reaches the desired temp it holds it just fine. It of course overshoots and undershoots first before it holds a steady temp. The only issue we had was during the initial burn-in process when we didn't know to press the grill mode button twice. If you don't press a mode button twice it will default to the roast mode or 350 F. The BK support folks were very helpful with explaining that when I called them thinking we had a faulty controller. I don't have any pics of any of the cooks but I have some pics of the grill if only the site would let me upload them LOL.

Great. Glad you got one that you enjoy. Your friends and family are going to be enjoying everything you cook on it too.👍🏻

What is a long time to come to temp? I’ve had 5 pellet grills and they all took 15-30 mins to fire up and get to temps. Maybe even 30-40 if going for 450-500 plus.

Ah ok I guess the 30 to 40 minute time frame to get to temp is normal. That's about how long it's been taking. I'll tell my mother because she wasn't sure if this was normal or not. That saves me a call to BK tech support .
