"The Original Grilla produces very nice smoke flavor. It is only heavy if I go low (like 190) and add a tube directly below the meat (and fill it with BBQ'rs Delight Black Walnut)."
The tube, below how do you light it & get that big thing (flavor saver), back on, without knocking it off, the perch?

Er ... what are you referring to as "that big thing (flavor saver)"? I have a Grilla OG and there is no "flavor saver" ... just a diffuser plate (a.k.a. the "drip pan") that sits between the burn chamber and the grill grate. Is that what you're referring to?
How do you get that wood chunk smoking? Does the grilla get them smoking? I would probably start a fire, if flavor disk out, add wood chip, light it, then, put the flavor disk back in
No. You wedge a chunk on the shelf there, put the flavor disk back in place without dislodging the chunk, fire it up and the burn pot will ignite the chunk.
The "perch" is attached to the bottom of the 'flavor disc' trying to light (wood or pellets) place on perch, then getting, the flavor disc, back on, without, knocking the smoking wood/pellets, seems like you would need allot of coordination & luck.
The only way I can think of is, tube with pellets, a small packet 'fire starter' stuck in end of tube, light, put on perch, then, re insert flavor disc.
Seems easier flavor disk off, place small cast iron smoker box, light, then put flavor disk, back on grill. The flavor saver's 'perch' would be empty
You don’t light wood and then try to put the burning wood on the perch. You just put a chunk of wood, some chips or even some pellets on there and let the burn pot flame ignite them.
I have a Traeger and burn Traeger pellets. My family and I like a lighter smoke flavor so we’re happy.
Whether it is intended or just my grill, the temp swings. When I am smoking at 225 F, the temp drops to about 180 F and then swings above to about 240 F. After watching for more time than I’d like to admit, the temp averaged 225 F. There’s always more smoke at the lower temperature.
When I need to grill at a higher temperature above 250 F, there is very light smoke; always more when the unit swings lower. However, since I know there will be less smoke at a higher temp I "cheat" by using a smoked paprika or smoked salt to boost the smoke flavor without overwhelming the food.
