    Finally bought a pellet pooper!

I finally decided to buy a Grilla Silverbac. I actually got the Silverbac Alpha which was just released yesterday. The Alpha model has dual controllers, their original and a PID, in one unit. I decided to go with this smoker because of all of the excellent reviews, it's double wall build for colder climates, and the company is only about an hour away from me so I was able to visit the showroom pick it up myself.

Since they offer free shipping on all of their smokers, they have a special deal for pickup customers. I got a t-shirt, a hat, a bottle of sauce, a thing of rub, and a bag of pellets just for picking it up. They also have a Cornhole game setup in there and if you make the shot, you win a set of their meat claws. As you can see in the one picture, they also have a Donkey Kong game for the kids to play.

I got it mostly put together. I am hoping to do a cook on it this weekend.

Yeah, I emailed them yesterday to get the dimensions of the box so that I could make sure that it would fit in my vehicle. I had a response back from them in two minutes.

NICE! Grilla is on my short list of pellets to get and I looked long & hard at the Silverbac too. Glad to see someone with one. Having the same weather as you that double wall sounded really good to me too.

I had my choices narrowed down to the Silverbac and a Yoder 640. I went with the Silverbac over the Yoder because they are a Michighan-based company and I can buy 2 Silverbac's for the price of one Yoder. I also figured that if they are a Michigan company, they should know how to build a smoker that does well in our climate.

Welcome to the Pellet Grill world. Love my Camp Chef DLX but always looking to expand, thanks for the insight on Grilla.

Congrats! Show us some cooks and review that Silverbac versus your other smokers. I think Grilla is what I will get eventually, but I go back and forth on Grilla OG or Silverbac.

The Grilla is a cool looking smoker. I opted for the Silverbac over the Grilla simply for the form factor. I cook ribs more than anything else so having a rectangular cook space made more sense than a circular one.

TechSmoker in email conversations with Grilla support, who are VERY responsive, I was steered towards the Grilla over the Silverbac if I wanted the optimum smoke, coming from an offset. That said, I too agree that the Silverbac will hold a lot more, which is why I would consider it. I do lots of butts and ribs here.

Well, crap. They've been on my short list for a while, but now they've just given me a reason to spend another $50 to upgrade to the Alpha. I think I need a second job....

I figured it would be stupid of me not to spend the extra $50 and get the PID option. You can always order the other controller later on and install it yourself but it ends up being more expensive that way.

Oh yeah, when I have the budget it will definitely make sense to do that. Whenever that will be...

Enjoy the world of pellet poopin !! I've had my eye on their Kong kamado for a little while. My MCS itch has run into some serious financial snags, but the list remains none-the-less

Maybe someone can develop a recipe for you to test that will only work if cooked in a Kong. You would have to get one then, right?

Haha I am right there with you Troutman - I've got a long list of toys I would love to have, but somehow life keeps making me send my $'s elsewhere...

Nice choice. I have the original Grilla and it has been a great unit. That Alpha controller gives you a nice option. I find I get great smoke using the original controller, but the temp does swing quite a bit. Not sure which is better.

So just for the heck of it I went to their site and they are coming out with a portable model called the Chimp. And I have an RV. That could use a primate

I currently live in Iowa. 40 years ago I lived in Holland, MI, so I am familiar with the weather there on the east side of the lake. I know we get colder, and I have no problem holding temp on my Grilla. I have the OG, but I have no doubt the SB will do almost as well. The only difference between cooking when it's below 0 and when its 90+ is I go through more pellets. Congrats.
