Green Mountain Grill - Jim Bowie
(I've never regretted having too much grate space).
Weber Genesis Gas grill
Weber Kettle grills x 2
I love my Yoder YS-640 and would recommend it without hesitation and think it is superior in cooking to the Green Mountain Grill that I had previously. Good luck on your search.

Grill: SNS Charcoal Kettle/ Grilla Original / Weber Genesis EP-330 / OK Joe Bronco Drum
Thermometers: Thermapen / iGrill 2 / Fireboard
For Smoke: Chunks / Pellet Tube / Mo Pouch
Sous Vide: Joule / Nomiku WiFi (RIP Nomiku)
Reddit: LeCheffre
Gotta stump for Grilla.
Loving my OG, cook for 2-8 office potlucks.
I dunno about built like a tank. It IS a tank.
I think Silverback is more comparable to RecTec, and IIRC, considerably more affordable than the comparable Rec Tec.
I have nothing but praise for the customer service. Easy on the phone, and on FB messenger.
But honestly, I think most of the kinks have been worked, so anything recommended above is probably great.

Second cook on the new pellet grill. Reverse sear on the steak. At 95 degrees internal I pulled off and seared it off in a cast iron skillet on my induction PIC. Sausage is a turkey sausage to test for flavor differences in different pellets. Steak was delicious, but tough. Certified Angus NY strip!

Best for the money is a relative thing. I chose a MAK 1 Star. I had looked at the Yoder YS640 and had it narrowed down to those two. Both were priced closely. In the end I bought the MAK for 2 reasons. The MAK was powder coated, not painted. 1. The Yoders will rust if left outside which is the case for me. After a 1.5 years zero rust on the MAK. 2. Free shipping and no sales tax on the MAK. I added the extra full upper rack and the rib rack. To date I'm happy with my decision.

LSG large insulated cabinet
Yoder YS640
LSG 48" Santa Maria Gill
SNS travel kettle
FireBoard controller and PitBull fan
FireBoard 2 Drive
Thermapen Mk4
Thermapen One
Avid Armor USV32 Vacuum Sealer
KWS 10" slicer
Love my Yoder YS640. I had it about a year now. Yes they are expensive but I was tired of units rusting out after a few years. It does have a few spots of surface rust but nothing that can't be fixed with a little sandpaper and touch up paint.
All of my cooks have turned out delicious. I have no trouble maintaining temps. Need a little extra smoke flavor just use an smoke tube. The new ones have WiFi controllers now!
I was looking at the RecTec and Yoder. Went with the Yoder on a comp cart because of the HD build. As you can see there are many choices and people happy with their choice. Welcome to the Pit

My recent pellet grill purchase decision was the result of following process.
First deciding amount to spend.
Next I researched all the models in that price range.
I finally decided on the Rec Tec Stampede for three reasons.
One, they have a 30 day money back guarantee that I thought was important since I am/was inexperienced with pellet smoking.
Two, it has PID controller with WiFi.
Three, is the amount of stainless steel utilized is impressive.
Otherwise, I would have bought the Grilla Silverbac Alpha. I thought the WiFi was a gimmick until I started using it and monitoring the cooker with my phone while working around the house or running short errands. No more wondering if the cooker temps are wandering.
Take your time and consider the features of those cookers in your price range. Figure out what features are important to you and pull the trigger. I am loving mine thus far!

I purchased my GMG DB about a month and a half ago. Our local grocery store is a GMG dealer and the owner happens to be a friend of mine. I can't speak to "best for the $", because he gave me a helluva deal on it. It was marked in-store at $528, but the girl running the register couldn't sell it without calling the owner (I was fully prepared to pay that price, btw!) When I got on the phone with him, all I told him was I wanted to buy one of these grills, he said "$399 and it's yours".
I'm a member of our local Volunteer Fire Department, and this store owner has been incredibly generous and supportive when we have special events and fundraisers, so for that reason I didn't even bother to look at another brand of grill.
I've watched quite a few reviews on rec-tec and they seem like they're a pretty darn good product for the value. I know several friends that have Traegers and they're happy with them, so for grills in a similar price range, I don't see you going wrong with any of those three.
I've heard a TON of great things about the Yoder, but from what I can tell they're just too far out of my price range so I haven't read up on any of the specifics of them.
I can say with certainty that I have already gotten my money's worth out of my GMG. I think I've ran approximately 120# of pellets through mine already and have had absolutely no complaints! I just take a shop vac to the burn box about every other day or so and it's good to go!
I haven't read through all the comments to see whether you've already made your purchase yet or not, but good luck with it either way. I look forward to you sharing your experience and findings with us!

You live in a cold climate so I would go with something double wall. I will get a Blazin Grill Works for my next one but right now I have a Grilla Grill and it works fine. Good temperature control, low pellet consumption even in cold weather. I also use a Weber propane gasser and a Pit Barrel Cooker. Every one o them gets used. They all have a purpose.
