Have never dumped. It's under the back patio uncovered. However, I do not dump the very bottom of the bag (where all the sawdust and fine bits collect) into the hopper.

To dump or not to dump ... that is the question ...

My neighbor who is an avid pellet head never dumps. And this is South FL. It is humid outside right now, and with my AC off the house reached 86 degrees today. His patio is covered, but still.
I would dump and for long term storage. Also make sure the auger is clear for long term storage. But if the cooker is covered and will be used, it is probably OK.
However, if there is a dump chute and it is easy to empty the hopper, why not. An ounce of prevention and all.

I don’t have one but maybe a suggestion. What about putting a few of the silica bags inside the hopper when storing the cooker. Those bags that you find inside a new shoe box or for a gun safe. Ya know, the ones that say do not eat (am I the only one that ever wondered what it tastes like?).
The sell large ones on amazon
50 Pack of 10 Gram Silica Gel Rechargeable Tyvek Desiccant Packets and Dehumidifiers, Food and Pharmaceutical Grade https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01GGOAZGM..._8ZJbCbN0A5BN4
that is a 50 pack but you get the idea. They also have silica gel packs.
Just don’t forget to take em out befor ya fire it up

I never dump. I'll only change pellets if I want a different wood flavor on my next cook (i.e.: If I used hickory for my brisket last time, I'll change to say apple when I cook bacon). I only change the day of the new cook. I have a decent cover and to this point, I haven't had an issue with moisture in the hopper...knock on wood
