Should I Buy Another Yoder YS640 or?

    Hi There,

I currently have a stick burner, a large ceramic smoker and a gasser and this summer I bought my first pellet cooker, a Yoder YS640. I have fallen in love with the Yoder, I really am enjoying it! Friends tell me that I am now smoking the best ribs ever on the Yoder, and they liked what I did before.

I live up north and I HATE the cold!! In a couple of weeks I will be going to Florida for the next 5 months and I will miss the YS640, so I am thinking on buying another Yoder for Florida. Or should I consider buying a different high end pellet grill just to compare?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts!!

    Cheers!!!!....

I too love my YS640. It works so well and delivers a really decent amount of smoke flavor for a pellet pooper. If you plan on entertaining down there then I say yes to the 640. If not maybe a Ys480 may fit better. A win either way

If you know and love your Yoder, unless it is too expensive to buy another, nothing wrong with a second one. I'd love to be able to do that! lol

Ya know what you like - why take the chance of getting something ya don't like? Maybe if you found something used while in FL. That way if you didn't like it, you might get most of your money back selling it.

I agree stick with the Yoder. It was actually my second choice when I opted to buy my Pitts & Spitts. Same basic price but mine was made locally so I saved about $600 in shipping cost. Regardless my advice is to stay with what you know !! Amazing you can afford to do so !!!

Take the 640 to Florida and buy a 1500 for home :0

Is this just for this winter,or are you planning to do this every year. If you are planning to do this on a yearly basis, I say go for the Yoder. If this is a onetime deal, maybe just go with a low end camp chef or pit boss. I had the Camp Chef SE. It made pretty good ribs, although the yoder cooks even better ones.

I think having the fire pot on one end rather than in the middle makes a difference. The Louisiana grills also have the firepot on one end, and if you look at Max's review, he comments on how the Louisiana grill produced more moist food, but he couldn't quantify why.

Sounds like you have already decided

by the way, what part of FL are you snowbirding at? Because as it turns out, I offer free BBQ equipment storage. Including free pickup when you leave AND delivery upon your return. Included in my service is secure storage and periodic equipment maintenance checks.

                  Hi There!

Thanks for the replies and suggestions. This is not a one time thing, I have a home in Florida, around Daytona Beach, and go there for the winter every year. I will shop around for a new Yoder YS640 when I get down there.

I really found the pellet smoker a game changer for me and I am really enjoying it, as well as this Forum!!

The guy whose wife owns the retirement trailer park in S. Daytona is an avid BBQ-er. You might want to hook up with him. Nice fellow. (Ironically, my Dad finished out his days there back in the mid-90's).

Well it depends. I know an officianado who says Weber kettles are more fun. 🕶
