    Grilla Grillgrate Question

Still window shopping a potential fall purchase of a Grilla down here in Huntsville, and one thing that jumped out at me is that the optional set of Grillgrates they offer for searing sure looks the same as the full set I already have and use on my Weber Performer.

Does anyone with a Grilla and a Weber kettle know if the Weber kettle Grillgrate set will fit on your Grilla?

My thoughts really are that I will likely NOT need the set for the Grilla, as I imagine I would "smoke" stuff on the Grilla and have plenty of time to light a chimney of charcoal on the Performer Deluxe and dump it in the SNS for reverse searing steaks, but it would be nice to know that the same set of Grillgrates could be used on both grills, and would also help infuence me towards the original Grilla versus the Silverbac. The reasoning I have is that I may in fact replace my gas grill for "casual" grilling with the Grilla, and that I would toss the Grillgrates on when using it in that manner. Giving the Genesis to my son in November will be my excuse for the MCS purchase of the Grilla... and if long term I miss the Genesis too much, thinking a Blackstone 36 will be the gas outdoor cooking appliance.

The Grilla has a 22 inch grill
Yes I would assume it would fit.....
    but
I would not use grill grates in a Grilla

your cook plan listed above is a good one

I have cooked on my Grilla with the heat deflector removed
    THATS a Wild ride
Oh what a mess it made

But now that the Fast Eddy PG 1000 is back at the casa
there is a pellet direct fire source available

Pretty sure your performer set will work fine. I bought the Grilla set but still have not used it.

Thom Emery I bring up using Grillgrates on the Grilla since they sell them as a $120 accessory for ‘searing’ as do most pellet cooker makers.

Sure you can sear If you crank that Grilla for a while the grill grates will get HOT
I guess I associate grill grates with direct flame from my own use years ago in conjunction with direct flame

Right - and that’s my experience as well, I use them when direct grilling on gas or charcoal if I want to eliminate flare ups. I use them mostly on the gas grill, and a few times a year on the kettle.

Here's the official word from Grillgrates:

          Jim,

You’re in luck! It is the same exact set for the 22” kettle and the Grilla.

            It should fit.
It is really inefficient to run the Grilla (or really any pellet pooper) up to sear temps. I do all my searing on my gasser.

Yep, Grillgrates confirmed that its a 100% fit, so its just good to know I have that option already since I own the Grillgrates that fit already. I agree its probably better to sear on another grill, and would probably sear on the Performer with the SNS, since the excuse for getting the Grilla is giving the Genesis to my son! . Later after I find it doesn't sear well I'll get a Blackstone 36... I have a plan you see!

I had an interesting back and forth with Grilla customer service - crazy how fast they were to respond to an inquiry via their webpage. I had an email in 2-3 minutes! Basically, they have confirmed my thoughts, as even Jeremy in customer service confirms some of the information that I had gleaned from their website - basically that the Grilla has a much better smoke profile than the Silverbac, and is more likely to meet my expectations coming from offset and charcoal smoker experience. He sent me some pictures showing 6 racks of baby backs fitting on the Grilla with the upper grate extension as well, and of course a rib rack is always an option.

jfmorris Since you already have a set of Grillgrates that fits, you're all set if you decide to use them that way. My plan is to get the set of Grillgrates that fits a 14" Smokey Joe. I've got my one time a year that I cook by charcoal, and at my wife's suggestion I bought the little grill this summer. The Grillgrates will work good with it, for about $45, which is of course more than the grill cost. But I figure I can use them on my Weber Genesis or the Grilla as well. They'll be big enough to sear a couple of steaks.

I already gave my son my old propane cabinet smoker, and I don't think my wife would be surprised if I gave him the Genesis as well. I haven't used the gasser a half dozen times since I got the Grilla. If I start using it to sear I might be able to better justify to her why it's still sitting on the deck.

Good to know you are liking the Grilla that much, and your plan is sound, using the one set of Grillgrates on all 3 grills.

I've bought special sized Grill Grates. The Cobb grill grates work better on the Smokey Joe. There's room on the sides for the coals to "breathe". I tend to keep small, medium and large Grill Grates (just the strips) to use as needed.
