was doing a chuck roast and bourbon beans on the gmg yesterday but could not get food temp readings with the units probe. called them this morning and the service was excellent. new probe is on the way, and he told me how to fix the one that doesn't work anymore. refreshing.

I had a similar issue with my Daniel Boone after only a few cooks. The cooking temp was clearly hotter than what it displayed (I figured that out when I shriveled up a few racks of ribs that shouldn't have been quite done yet) and the probe wasn't reading properly. Was going to call to see about fixing it, but haven't gotten around to it. I have a Maverick XR-50 on the way, so I'm not sure I'm going to bother fixing the built in hardware and will probably just rely on the Maverick probes for surface temp and meat temp going forward.

plan on a maverick as well, but i liked the built in, matched my thermopop exactly

If it is the cooker temp probe that is bad, you may want to replace that. When I use my pellet cooker, I always trust my maverick for cooker temperature. on higher temps the Camp Chef I have can be off from the dial setting, but it stays steady because the probe is working. I just adjust it based on the maverick.
If the probe is not working, you will not have control for the auger.
