    Original Grilla

Last night I was looking at Facebook Marketplace and found an ad for a 3 year old Original Original Grilla. Original in that it was one of the originals when they were being made in Holland, Michigan, not China. The guy selling it was a dealer, before they moved manufacturing and changed their business plan. It was their demonstrator, and was used about a dozen times. The U.S made Grillas cost about $1800, current China made models are $800. He's asking $500 for it. He's about 80 miles from me, and I'm trying to work out when I could get there with a truck. Unless one of you beats me.

I already have a pretty good idea on what I'm going to do, just thought I'd see if someone had a reason why this would not be a.good idea. Especially someone who has an original Grilla.

Jump on it like a flea on a mangy mutt? Haha. First thing that comes to mind. I would stick to that deal like white on rice is another way I could go.

Thanks for the encouraging comments. A Grilla should be on my deck by the end of the weekend.

And, the Grilla is on my deck, joining the Weber Genesis. For providing the pickup, and some muscle to get it on the deck, my son got my old propane, cabinet smoker. And some pork steaks, from the first cook. One benefit of buying a demonstrator is the seasoning already was done. I did have a moment of angst, when the augur didn't work, but evidently laying on its back for 90 miles with a handful of pellets jammed it up. Cleaned it out, and all was well. Kept things simple for the first cook, and just did some boneless pork chops that had dry brined all day, and then had a dusting of Memphis Dust. Used Lumberjack Competition Blend pellets, because my son is in management at a store where that's one of the brands they sell, and I could get his 20% discount. Cooked to an internal temp of 140. Not a heavy smoke flavor, but I thought it was good, I could taste the smoke, and nobody complained.

I also found out the seller started selling the Grilla Grills on the advice of CandySueQ when he was buying pellets from BBQrs Delight pellets. They don't sell Grilla anymore, but while I wasn't in the actual storefront (the Grilla was in a service bay), he said they are currently selling Green Mountain and just added Blaze'N Grills. Which I found interesting, because that is a brand I had looked at, which I told him. Also interesting was that he still said he thought the Grilla was the best. (Maybe he just really wanted to get the Grilla out of his bay.)

A few pics to prove it's where I say it is, and the cook took place.

      It does make smoke!

Gotta throw this one in here.

Merry Christmas to me...a little early. I had told my wife I'd accept this as my Christmas present, until I saw this deal and jumped on it. I might need a few accessories for Christmas.

Looking good! And it seems you had space for a lot more on the grate of that Grilla! Keep us posted on how you like it.

Honestly, I can't tell an original Grilla from the China made ones. I'm cooking on my China Grilla that I won at the World Food Contest last year. Cooked hot dogs on Saturday (it is National Hot Dog Month!) with black walnut pellets. Amazing flavor on these dogs.

Congratulations on a great score, Bogy! Now you got me trying to figure out who my customer is!

When I saw the company was based in Holland, it caught my attention. I went to seminary in Holland, and my grandparents lived there for many years. It doesn't appear there is much difference, outside of a few upgrades, like the controller. Your customer is not on your website's "store list", but he's on the north side of Des Moines, and you can also get a bed liner put in your pickup there.

And I do see that I can get BBQr's Delight in Ankenny, which is slightly closer, and someplace I go through on a fairly regular basis. Ankenny is where I bought my Weber Genesis.
