So far, I've cooked with "Perfect Mix" from CookinPellets and "Ultimate Blend" from Rec Tec and had great results. I would highly recommend them, except about $1 per pound, so I'm going to try Pacific Pellets at $.50 per pound. I'll post PP results after I have some experience with them.

BTW I like these containers for pellet storage... the small ones hold 20 lb. bags of pellets perfectly. It appears that the larger ones might hold 40 lbs. https://www.amazon.com/Buddeez-Kings...arcoal+storage

Hi There, I use Pitmaster Select Competition Grade Hardwood Smoking Pellets because that is what the dealer in NH where I bought my Yoder YS640 sells. I have used them about 10 times so far and I am very pleased with them. They light easily, burn well, nice smoke flavour and when I am smoking the smell of the smoke coming off the 640 makes my mouth water and there is what I consider very little ash left over after the smoke. I admit that I haven't tried anything else to compare it to as just started pellet cooking a few weeks ago.
I haven't found anyone here that seems to know anything about them, but they are working great for me!

Hello Everyone, we just ordered a Camp Chef Pro Dlx. I haven't seen anyone post any information on the Camp Chef pellets. If we missed a post I'm sorry if I'm asking for repeated info. We haven't purchased the pellets yet, but they are suppose to be 100% wood. Any information would be helpful as we're new to smoking and using pellets.
We're really enjoying all the posts we've been reading. I'm glad we found this site.

The camp chef facebook group has a group buy on Lumber Jack pellets. But you have to buy a quarter ton along with 3 other people (they ship a ton on a pallet), and go pick up the pellets at a shipping yard. My buy went smooth and I averaged $8.50 per 20 lbs.

Randy-Phx That is a GREAT price! Can you mix pellet woods or do you have to buy all the same?

Well, you can see my results using Pacific Pellets Bourbon Blend in the link below. I like the results, but did have an issue on my Rec Tec Trailblazer RT-340 wanting to run hot during this cook... I'm not sure if the pellets had anything to do with it. i set to 225 and it kept drifting to 250+. Normally don't have this issue as RT controller is very precise. Was able, with the same pellets, to keep a steady 500 temp while burning grease out of smoker, and a steady 425 temp cooking Papa Murphy pizza. So, in general, I would say the Pacific Pellets are good, maybe not the best, but consider $10 per 20 lbs, and compare with other more expensive pellets, not a bad deal. If you need the best, and can tell the difference, go for the high end brands, which I also use and find to be excellent.

No, normally my Rec Tec runs exactly 225. However, I did start this cook with a smoke tube with lit pellets, which I thought might confuse the controller. I removed the smoke tube and still had issues. Though, I've had no further issues as I've been using the same pellets for searing steaks at higher temps, but not tried lower temp again with them yet.

Folks on the Grilla group really like them. I have not hit them up yet, having been a BBQrs Delight user, and taking a 60 lbs run on Lumberjack (which I can buy locally, apparently).

Potkettleblack - I've seen references to the "Grilla group" but I haven't found them yet. You wouldn't have a url handy I suppose?
