Camp Chef Slide and Sear Pellet Grill

Still looking for a new pellet grill. Recently saw one in Dick's Sporting Goods store that looks interesting. It is made by Camp Chef and this particular model must be unique to Dick's. It looks kind of like the DLX model but also has a built in feature that allows you to open the fire box for searing. Has anyone on here owned one of these or have any information on them. Have done a little online research but not a lot of info available.

Sounds like Camp Chef's new SG model, which I will be testing shortly. SG's heat diffuser over the fire pot can be pulled off to the side by a knob next to the hopper. Instead of a solid drip pan, it has a louvered system that acts somewhat like heat tents on a gas grill and exposes the cook surface to some direct flame from the uncovered firepot.

Yes the "slide and sear" feature looks the same on both units. The SG has a bigger pellet hopper and maybe a few other slight differences than the SG from Dick's. I look forward to reading your test on this product. I am patiently waiting for them to go on sale so maybe I can read your report before I actually buy one. Looks like kind of a "hybrid" between the DLS amnd SG models. Thanks for the information.

Dick's model is called the "XG" which I guess makes it available only at their stores and website.

Bought the SG in April. Neat feature but has limitations. Works on beef steaks that have enough fat to get a good sear going. Only bad thing about this option is can cause a inferno if been doing lo and slow cooks with grease build up. Burnt paint off my new CC.

Thanks for the information. So you are saying that if I want to use the sear feature, I need to clean off the drip tray BEFORE turning up the heat? For instance, if I am slow smoking ribs and want to add bbq sauce at the end of the cook, I would have to clean off the drip tray first? Seems easier just to put them on the grill. I may be too lazy to utilize this feature!!!

Just need to keep eye on pit when turning up to 400+deg.It is a nice way to clean grime off racks.
