Have Smoke Pro SG and at times would like more smoke flavor. Thought I give the old gas burner foil pack trick a try. Set one of those cast iron smoke boxes filled with good Missouri hickory right on top of heat deflector. Next to it a foil packet with different size hickory chunks. the foil packet hung over both sides of heat deflector by 3". The heat deflector is about 3" above fire cup. Fired up and smoked 7 hours at 225 degrees. After cool down checked how hickory wood did and was shocked. Wood in cast iron box did not hardly change color. The wood that hung over left side in foil pack smoked but wood on top and hanging over right side did not get hot enough to smoke. Any suggestions on getting more smoke.

Was thinking about that maze thing. Do you think I could set hickory wood on top of the burning pellets.Originally posted by RonB View PostA smoke tube should help you get more smoke.

I have an Amazin’ Smoke Tube and I’m not sure that it will 1) burn hot enough for the chunk to burn and it is pretty small so it might not fit chunks well.
That said, I’ve used mine a couple of times and have been pleased with the results. Get some good pellets (I use BBQ Delight) in the wood type you want and go! Good luck.
