Was spring cleaning for the grills today both gas and pellet. Scraped the Yoder's diffuser plate. Then all grill grates and diffuser plate were sprayed with EZ Off oven cleaner. I then sprayed them down with a power washer. Worked very well to get stuff off. Think if I had left the spray on longer that it would have gotten stuff off even better. Just a thought for you all who might be doing some spring cleaning yourselves.

I hit the outside with Krud Kutter and a sponge, then gome back with some white venigar and a magic eraser to get the stubborn stuff off. Grates soak in a pail with dawn and hot water, then get hit with an SOS pad. while grates are soaking, I scrape the inside, but only if need be. Spray everything off with water, reassemble, and give her all she's got to dry her out. Then season with lard and cook some bacon on it. Done. Only do this once every other year, once a year max. Most of the time it is a warp 10 burn until no more smoke, cool off, and hit with oil or bacon grease.

This looks like the perfect place to post this question. I have a GMG Daniel Boone, I have vacuumed it out a few times and use a pan under the meat to catch the drippings, and I just wash the grates with Dawn in the sink, so it stays fairly clean, although I've only had it for going on 6 months now. What I am getting is a tar like residue around the door so it sticks closed and you have to pull on it to get it open. What can I use to clean this off, I've thought about using Simple Green as this says its non-toxic. Thank you for any suggestions you may have.

Thank you all for your input, EdF, I looked at the link and texastweeter both look very similar to Simple Green, I’m not much of a tree hugger either but I also don’t want to poison myself by using the wrong cleaner either. Sweaty Paul my first pellets were pecan that were way to mild but I don’t remember who made them, I have tried Louisiana pellets and am now using Hickory CookinPellets that I like the best but would like to try the BBQ delight pellets. Vandy I have a bottle of isopropyl alcohol in my bathroom and also have a bottle of the Simple Green so I will try both and let you know what I think.
