    Help I screwed up.

Just bought a Camp Chef SG. I set up,filled with Hickory pellets and burned for one hour to get oil burned off. The problem is I left out side and had heavy rain. Pellet compartment looks dry but rest of pit must not be rain prof. The ash cup is half full of water and grease bucket is overfloeth. What needs to be done to get this baby ready to smoke its first slab of ribs. Have meat and no smoke!

I would clean it out and let it dry for a while. I would be worried about water getting into the controls. You may have to open up the controls to see how wet they are? Contact cleaner may help to dry them? I’ll bet you won’t let this happen again?

I agree with Argoboy. Do not turn it on until you are sure the electronics are ok. If you turned it off before it got wet you should be ok. Note that there is a fuse on the unit. If you try to turn it on and nothing happens, you may want to check that first.

I would run the auger on feed to make sure any wet pellets are out of the auger. run about a half cup out.

You need to also assess if any of the pellets got wet within the auger tube itself. When you feel confident the electronics are ok, advance the auger as was said. If the pellets get wet they will ‘cement’ up on you requiring disassembly. Good luck, hope the damage, if any, was minimal.

I would empty out the hopper and trash the pellets. Run some popcorn or corn cob polishing media (available at a gun store) through the auger to get any stuck on dissolved pellets.

I would avoid opening up the controls, you could void the warranty.

I would also be very surprised if the controls weren't waterproof; if they weren't, that would knock pellet grills off the market, because most of them get used in any kind of weather. But, what do I know.

Go the the Camp Chef website and live chat with someone, that should answer your question. I searched for the manual for your model there but couldn't find it.

What others have already said with one more thing.

After inspection and any cleaning necessary, go buy a cover

You should be fine. Barbecues are designed for outside. Just clean according to the great advice above, and I agree with SmokeyGator that I would cover a pellet grill just as an extra precaution.

Well the Camp Chef is back to running thanks to everyone's help. Dried out and fresh pellets. Everything Iv read about pellet smokers makes them sound idiot proof but I proved them wrong.
