Wow, I have been over thinking which pellet grill I should get for about 6 months. I finally got off high center yesterday and bought a GMG david bowie. When I started assembling it, I was a little confused by the grease tray. The one in the instructions had holes in the grease tray but mine didn't. I wrote into there customer support email on there website.
3!!! Minutes later, yes 3, I had a call telling me that they had changed the design but hadn't changed the pictures in then instructions yet. I'm blown away by how fast they got back to me.
Hi, my name is Darrell. I'm an OTR truck driver for over 25 years. During my off time I love doing backyard cooks. I have a 48" Lang Deluxe smoker, Rec-Tec pellet smoker,1 Weber Genesis 330, 1 Weber Performer (blue), 2 Weber kettles (1 black and 1 Copper), 1 26" Weber kettle, a WSM, 8 Maverick Redi Chek thermometers, a PartyQ, 2 SnS, Grill Grates, Cast Iron grates, 1 ThermoPop (orange) and 2 ThermoPens (pink and orange) and planning on adding more cooking accessories. Now I have an Anova sous vide, the Dragon blower and 2 Chef alarms from Thermoworks.
just bought a daniel boone on sale with lots of extras for 550. been wanting to try a pellet smoker so here goes. found AR this past Christmas while looking tips on cooking brisket. Awesome site (but costing me money) my wife and kids thank you.
They still sell the older design grease tray. 44 bucks. i too just got the GMG JB wifi. assembled it and couldn't find the cover thermometer.. called CS and they have shipped it right out...and of course 10 minutes after calling them, i found the box with the thermometer in it, it fell into the cat hide (i was building it in my living room) didn't call them back due to the fact that the thermometer is reading a good 10-15 degrees cooler than what the GMG is set at,while my weber igrill read the temp a 20 degrees (only tested this at 185 so far) warmer than 185. so i used the app to adjust the temp down 20 at the low end and the temp ranged from ~175-195 for the next 3 hrs while i made some beef jerky.
anyone know of an APP that will connect to the GMG via wifi so i can track the temp during a cook? weber does it but i lose bluetooth when i am in the living room (grill is~25 feet away)
I bought a jim bowie wifi about a month and a half ago.
good grill. When it works, I have had ..."issues". Customer service is great though.
my issues, 2 of them
first the ignitor failed within the first week of owning the grill,😢 CS sent a new one out asap.
second, the controller was wonky. One day all works fine wifi etc np. Next day, no wifi, etc until a factory reset, then it just stopped working-wifi that is- completely for several days even with factory resets, pulling plug etc - again customer service was great. They shipped out a new controller...of course the next day after calling CS...the WiFi worked.
love the grill don't get me wrong, but I cross my fingers that that is all that goes wrong. Doing 5racks of iberico ribs- sunday, 2 st Louis 3 baby back for Father's day....
These kind of stories, even with good customer service, make me sorta glad my MCS has not caused me to buy a pellet smoker yet. My charcoal, wood and propane always work. I’ll get one some day I am sure though...
