In case any of my fellow Pitmasters are in the market for a pellet smoker, I NEED you to understand how great GMG is. Last Wednesday, I tried to update the firmware on my grill from 6.3 to 6.7. These firmware updates added a couple things like the ability to adjust left and right temps, more economic pellet burning, and a few other nifty upgrades that fix wifi and server issues. I couldn't update. The control panel just would not connect to their servers to pull down the update. So I called GMG support, and they had a new panel sent to me by Friday. The new one was put in (5 minute fix, if that) and pre-updated with their v6.7 firmware. Saturday rolls around and I'm in the middle of smoking a brisket and realize my left and right temps at the grate are around 50 degrees off. I once again call to see whats going on, as I have my heat shield slid all the way right, as instructed. This isn't fixing the issue. Turns out a few of the welds popped. Once again, new heat shield sent out, free of charge. I got the new heat shield in tonight! So I decided, since I've already replaced a bunch of stuff, and they are so amazing to work with, I might as well call their general questions line and see if I can buy one of their new 1 piece trays off of them. They OBLIGED! and took half off just because of the other issues I was having. These guys do it right, and they do it right every time.
I want to let it be known, that although I had a bunch of issues, I have had this grill for over a year with no issues, and even with broken parts, it still smoked a pork butt and a brisket flawlessly. You need to understand that although this isn't a 1500 dollar Yoder YS640, for 6 and some change, you are getting a damn good smoker, that will last you years, and is supported by a wonderful company. I have smoked things in -20 temps and in 120-degree temps, rain, snow, or shine. It still chugs along like I picked it up from the dealer yesterday.
