"Dude, you're gettin' a Dell.... err... I mean Yoder!"

On another (non-BBQ) forum one of our longtime members is selling his Yoder YS480. I've been looking a while, nearly bought a GMG Jim Bowie last fall, have been looking at the Blaz'n'Grill and had come close to deciding to get the Rec Tec sometime soon. But a Yoder was always something I figured would just be out of my reach for now. I'd honestly rather have the YS640, but the YS480 will definitely do, and it comes with the cover and the grill grates and tool for $650. Looking on their website, it looks like over $1700 before shipping, but he said he paid around $1200 from his local dealer.

Either way, I think I'm getting a great smoker at a great price, no matter how painful it is for me right now, with a job change and a 75% pay cut coming up in a couple of months!

I can't wait, I'm about ready to load up in my Tahoe and go get it RIGHT NOW, but I need to wait for The Wife and The Boy to wake up so we can coordinate what our plans are for the next few days... but I can tell you, there'll be some SMOKIN' GOIN' ON THIS WEEKEND!!!!! W00T!!!!!

<edit> Oh, and it's about 2 hours each way from here, he's over near OKC, I'm north of Tulsa. So it'll be a half-day round-trip, but it's still worth it!

Congratulations! You will enjoy that! And don't worry about the capacity too much. With rib racks you can fit a lot of slabs of ribs on there, and I am sure it will handle a goodly number of butts, or a couple of large briskets just fine!

I've never liked rib racks, I've tried several and they seem messy and the ribs are floppin' all over, etc. I dunno, maybe I just haven't found the right one.

I fabbed up a 2nd shelf for my Traeger which made me able to fit 4 racks, but this new grill will be a big step up!

I only use the racks if I just have to smoke more than I can fit on the grate. With the Weber kettle + SNS, I always use the rack since I am always cooking a minimum of 3 slabs. On the offset if I get more than 6 slabs, I throw in a rack my dad had welded up for me that will hold 10 racks, and if I had to, could fit the Weber 5 rib rack next to it.

As long as the guy hasn't ruined the electronics or failed to clean up the grease buildup, then I'd be all over that one too !!! Good luck, I realize from previous posts this may be a stretch for you, but one that should yield good results !!

Oh, I've been using an old Traeger for several years, but this one is definitely a big step in the right direction!

Congratulations. You will love it. Built like a tank. Like indicated earlier, just make sure the electronics are working and the igniter is fine. For testing, taking it up to 350 should only take about half an hour.

Today is my first cook.... won't have time for a brisket or a butt, as I got sick last night and couldn't get out of bed. So today I'm trying to decide what to cook. I am thinking brats and dogs, maybe a spatchcocked chikkin or some chicken drumsticks. I don't know, I'm researching now, as I've never had good luck with chicken on the smoker, but I've always done it too low and it was rubbery as HAIL. I have learned much since then, though, and I think I can pull it off.
