I am assembling my Green Mountain Daniel Boone and the drip pan that came with it is solid. When I look at videos online it seems like everyone has drip pans with holes. Anyone know if this is right? Also, does the solid drip pan go in with the half moon on the left? I saw online somebody said it goes to the right but that doesn’t seem right.
Thanks!
I have the double sided and it is wrapped in foil to make it easier to clean. However, that disables the use of the holes. I would say it makes no difference but I never used the holes.
I don't have the DB but if it's set up the same as my Davy Crockett the half moon cut out goes to the left. It leaves the internal temp sensor clear.
I would add that you are probably not losing much with the solid drip tray. I have the double sliding trays with holes which are supposed to allow direct cooking (holes open). The one time I tried a steak using the direct method, I was not impressed. It cooked ok but did not really sear. I finished it on a gasser.

Reason: provide additional info
The holes are supposedly there to give you better sear capabilities. I don't use the grill for that anyway, so I cover with foil like Aimless1 .
I love my Daniel Boone but it does have limitations. Although I have not tried a cast iron pan for searing, I don't think it gets hot enough to sear and it does not have a direct flame option. This is a problem for many pellet grills, not just the DB. With so many things to cook on the grill I don't feel deprived.
I can tell you from experience I would much rather have a solid one piece myself. If they are selling them, I will be ordering one within a few days. Thanks for the heads up!
