    Rec Tec Wi-fi

I think I've finally nailed down my next MCS purchase to the Rec-Tec RT-700 wifi model. I've been studying these things for the better part of a couple months. My question is, if you have a Rec-Tec and the smoke box, is it worth it? I'm extremely interested in the whole setup, but wondering how that smoke box performs.

I'm curious about the smoke box as well. Is it just for cold smoking, or is it more rack space for ribs and stuff like that?

From their site (under grill accessories)

The REC TEC Smoker Box gives you the ability to smoke fish, cheese, jerky, sauces, spices, or even condiments. With three stainless grates inside the chamber, space is never an issue. You can even use the smoke box as a warming area at the end of your cook to keep the smoke rolling until it is time to eat. The stainless drip pan in the bottom of the Smoke Box flows into your existing drip bucket, making clean-up simple and easy. It attaches to your RT-680 using the existing holes ensuring a care-free installation.

I have the smokebox and haven't fully used it to its capabilities. I have used to to keep foods warm while doing other items, which will impart a smokey flavor to the foods being warmed. I have done cheese (original intention) and it's turned out alright. My first cheese attempt was a fail as I had the smoker on at 180, but apparently that made it too hot for the smokebox. It melted my cheese but it still tasted good. I found you have to have a smoke tube and just have that going in the main part of grill and then allow the smoke to come through. We have done jerky too and it was good.

You could use it as your faux cambro, as a power cambro perhaps....but you can do that with the main chamber too.

Just got my new RT-700 3 days ago.
It is my first pellet grill, so I can't really say how it compares to others (or even the RT-680 for that matter), but it is great so far! WIFI was simple and easy to set up. I can control the entire thing from my phone, including temperature alarms for each built in probe (there are 2).
I did get the smoke box, and have really only used it to hold completed cooks so far, but hope to make use of it in the near future. As far as temperature in the box goes, if you are only looking for smoke, and not heat, there is sometimes a 100 degree temperature difference between the top of the box and the bottom, so smoke everything down low to avoid overheating if that is your desire.

Thanks for the review. I just ordered the stampede and have been wondering how happy people have been with the RT700
