    PBC accessories?

Okay, I'm going to add a PBC to my arsenal. What accessories do you suggest that you can't do without?

Ash catcher, poultry hook and maybe the folding grate

+1 on the folding grate, very versatile cooking options.

As a new owner, I too got the ash catcher. Much easier to empty it than a 55lb barrel. I also got their chimney as I'm new to chimneys and didn't want to get one so tall that it would make it more difficult to dump in the hot coals. I think I will also get an additional hook remover for removing food like roasts that require two hooks.

I made like 5 hook removers in 15 minuets with parts purchased at Lowe’s! My wife is always finding new places to hide my stuff so one day I said "No more hunting !"

Butchman I suppose I could do that as well, but with a couple mouse clicks on my lunch break I can have it delivered to my door in a couple days. The world we live in...

the coffee mug has small handles, hard to hold if you have big hands, don't know about the beer mug, have to many of those

Ash catcher, turkey hanger and gloves. I did get the PCB gloves and they work fine. Sometimes you just have to hold those hooks with your hand.

I made an ash catcher for mine when I bought it about 4 years ago. It warped/pooped but now the barrel is on blocks so sweeping out the ash is no biggee. That catcher dude sure was nice to have those pre-block years.

The hinged "great-grate" is also so nice.

Ash catcher, hinged grate, poultry hanger, sausage hanger. Poultry hanger is still out of stock FYI.

                Extra set of hooks!
I’m a fan oh the hinged grate.
A second hook remover (make it or buy it either way a second one is handy).

i also purchased some mesh wire grill baskets that are like a clam shell with handles at Walmart I’m the grilling section... use them frequently.

agree on the extra hooks! the hinged grate is nice. ash catcher. Go to Lowes/HomeDepot/Whatever and get a set of welders gloves for either lowering the charcoal basket in, or for dumping coals from a chimney starter.

Hinged grate, extra hooks, and extra hook remover. Ash catcher didn't work for me because the grease ran right off it onto the bottom of the barrel. I went back to using 2 layers of heavy duty aluminum foil shaped to the dimensions of the bottom of the barrel using the lid's interior edge as a template.

I modified a couple of sausage racks to fit my PBC, but a sausage rack is sweet too. Nothing like the flavor that smoking sausages while smoking a chicken gives to that bird.

If anyone wants a slightly used PBC ash catcher, PM me with your address and I'll send it along to you. First come, first served.

I really like the PBC skewers. They work great for making smoked pork belly cubes, which I then use to make brunt ends. You can get a ton of them into the PBC at once, on 8 skewers. I will admit, I was skeptical, but I use them all the time. The skewers are the only accessory.

For the ash, if you want, just pick up the barrel and dump it out into a 5-Gallon bucket. Give e the bottom a few knocks and you are good to go. If you don't want to pick it up, then the ash catcher is the good way to go.

Spinaker I'm looking to get some of those too. What's the diameter of the shank? Seems like they would need to be quite large to accommodate the hook diameter and still leave enough stock to not bend or break. Like fzxdoc asks, which size seems to be the most useful? Never mind. I just watched the video. They are not round at all.

They are crimped metal. I know it sounds bad, but the work great. And they should last a long time. I was skeptical, but I have been very happy with them. Rod

I forgot about those skewers, Spinaker . My plan was if they didn't come in Santa's sleigh, I'd buy them for myself after the first of the year. Well, Santa didn't bring them because he must have gotten diverted to the jewelry store instead (I'm not complaining). So I'm off to the PBC site to order some of those.

Which size do you find more useful, or should I buy the combo pack and go from there?

Thanks, Spinaker. I'll do the same.

I've had my PBC for about a week. I recently bought the ash pan, turkey hanger (backordered), premium cover and chimney - just got them yesterday. I used a taller chimney and found it difficult to place the burning coals where I wanted them. I bought the ash pan based on opinions of others. I previously just blew out ashes in the base of the cooker with an air hose. We'll see how that goes. The cover seems very well made, nice heavy material. I bought a pair of welding gloves from Amazon for reaching into the barrel. The quality of all PBC's items appears very good to me.

I use a small chimney, dump the coals into the middle and then lower the basket into the barrel. Super easy. Use a Pitt Mitt or a long handled hammer to lower it in.
