Anyone have experience with the Traeger Timberline?

I’m looking for a pellet oven with WiFi remote and sizeable capacity. The capacity rules out the RecTec. The remote capacity rules out the Yoder. I keep coming back to the Timberline. Has anyone on here purchased one and can give me some first hand feedback?

    Many thanks!!

Have not seen a lot of real good recommendations for Traeger. They seem a bit cheaply made although I have not cooked on one.

I saw the 1300 Timberline in person at the Salt Lake City headquarters. It’s gigantic!

If you are in the Yoder price range, Check out the MAK. They are impressive units. And they have a WIFI option.

The MAK 2 Star is as small as my Traeger Lil Tex. That’s the issue there. I need something to move a full KBQ run into. Seems to be a lot of dissing on the Traeger. I understand it, but mine is over 10 years old. That’s impressive in its own right. This new Timberline looks like Traeger looked at all their competitors and incorporated their strong points.
          Cheers

You've mentioned something similar on another thread (finishing after the KBQ on the Traeger). For more smoke, or ...? Curious.

            Hey there Ed.
The reason is simply convenience. I love the smoke profiles and ability to adjust them on the KBQ. I typically run the brisket, etc. on the KBQ until I wrap it in pink butcher paper. At that point if I’m doing well and the time is mine to enjoy, I will finish in the KBQ. Otherwise I put it in the Traeger to free myself up.
            (Continued on next post)

I’ve not gotten to the point yet with the KBQ and my wood supply (seems to need to Season a tad more) to where I can leave the pit for 20-30 min. I am the sole pit master around here. Since I’ve come to think the meat will not be picking up as much smoke flavor once wrapped, I toss it in the Traeger as someone would an oven. I’ve only had 1 flameout in 10 years.
            Cheers

I won’t talk poorly about Traegers, but I can tell you this from experience. I cooked on a nice US made Traeger a number of years back. It was solid and very reliable. I now cook on a MAK 2 Star. After experiencing both, I must say that the MAK runs circles around my old Traeger... in every way! As far as size, the MAK is very deceptive. Add a full upper rack and you can smoke a LOT of meat.

I have the smaller Timberline 850. I really enjoy it for many reasons. The wi-fire technology is quite enjoyable to use, and it is fun to adjust temperature from my mobile device. I have recently considered upgrading to the 1300 and passing along my Pro34 to a family member but for some reason my more "basic" Lil Tex and Pro 34 have also been fantastic cookers. When the Timberline has given me issues, time and time again, I have learned it was my error, neglecting to clean the fire pot pre cook. With that being said, I have never once had a flameout. I appreciate the double wall insulation, and it is a sturdy cooker. It does sear, and does as good of a job if not better than crummy gas grills I have owned. But owning a few kamado grills as well, it is hard to compare a sear from a Kamado to a pellet grill. On NYE I smoked filet steaks on one Traeger to 110F and finish seared with GrillGrates on the Timberline. It was a magical dinner. Click image for larger version

I appreciate your response!! Do you think the Timberline is a significant upgrade quality wise and feature wise over the older models?

Smokin D yes. The quality is evident when you open the lid. A much different experience than previous models, because it is built more sturdily. In addition, although they are minor things, I appreciate it having 3 places to set things, a cutting board which I seldom use, and a gasket for the lid. Older models cook fine without the add on's but they are nice. The controller is enjoyable as well.

Does anyone here have any experience with Grilla Grills? Thinking about getting one of those, the Silverbac. Just wondered what you guys thought of them if you had used them before.

I have one on the back deck and one on the back porch here at work, plus all the households in the family have a Grilla. The Grilla not the Silverbac. Love it!

I have a Silverback and it does a very good job of cooking but if you go more than a couple cooks before cleaning the fire pot out you run the risk of a flameout. My 8 year old Traeger on the other hand has never had a flameout and I sometimes go probably 6 cooks or more before cleaning the firepot.

I use my Silverback summer and winter. Never an issue. I am on the FB page for Grilla. Everyone has the same experience. Anyone having a problem rave about incredible customer service.

Very disappointed. I reached out to Traeger via their website to inquire about where to find a Timberline within 100 miles of me to go check out. I let them know I was in the market and had used one of their lil Tex models for around 10 years. Got the canned response that my message was received and that someone would get back to me. It’s coming on a week now.
I’d say it’s a fail on their part. There is enough stiff competition in this marketplace.
            Oh well.

You may want to check out the Blazn Grillworks gridiron, out of the gate it is about 300 square inches smaller than the Traeger but they offer the pro shelf as an upgrade to significantly increase the cooking capacity.
