My .02 cents having a 680 and after I read Meatheads book I quite searing. I do not have Grillgrates, but have a friend that does, they do leave sear marks if that's what you are looking for. At higher temps.
Got my eye on one also. just waiting for you to buy one and share reviews.
Yea I don't think i need grill grates. I'm just looking for hot and fast type grilling but with fire. I was considering a PK Grill (the older one) or just a weber kettle. But I confess I like the simplicity and quickness of pellets. I have a Camp Chef PG24 DLX pellet smoker for long cooks and roasting. This Bullseye seems like a great replacement for my gasser.
Hi, my name is Darrell. I'm an OTR truck driver for over 25 years. During my off time I love doing backyard cooks. I have a 48" Lang Deluxe smoker, Rec-Tec pellet smoker,1 Weber Genesis 330, 1 Weber Performer (blue), 2 Weber kettles (1 black and 1 Copper), 1 26" Weber kettle, a WSM, 8 Maverick Redi Chek thermometers, a PartyQ, 2 SnS, Grill Grates, Cast Iron grates, 1 ThermoPop (orange) and 2 ThermoPens (pink and orange) and planning on adding more cooking accessories. Now I have an Anova sous vide, the Dragon blower and 2 Chef alarms from Thermoworks.
Well, I received it Friday! That's the good news. I assembled it today; harder than some builds due to sparse diagrams, but not too bad. Just now I went through the first firing procedure. power on, check. The fan is blowing. check. power on the igniter and verify it glows, check. Turn the temp controller to high and verify the auger is moving, check. Then as I added the pellets, there was a pop and a flash from around the bottom where the control board is. Now the fan and auger are dead. The light on the power switch lights up, so it is getting power. I think it blew the 5 amp / 250V fuse on the controller board. I can replace that, but this probably means there is a short somewhere. So no steaks for me tonight.
I opened up the bottom and sure enough, the 5A fuse was blown. I had a 3A, so I put that in to experiment. The fuse held up and didn't blow. So no immediate short. The ignitor works, the fan works. But: No auger. So either the control board failed, or the auger motor failed...
