    Yoder vs. Smokin Brothers

Went by a higher-end outdoor cooking retailer near me on Friday to kill some time, and asked the gentleman about his opinion on pellet smoker. He said, without a doubt, Smokin Brothers is the top of the line. I asked about it compared to Yoder, and he still said he'd pick SB every time. He had a Yoder and SB in the store, and the Yoder sure felt heavier duty than the SB, and I've always heard Yoder is the higher quality of the $1000ish cookers.

If I'm going to save up to buy a $1000-$1500 cooker next year, should I consider the Smokin Bros over the Yoder? I know there are a million threads like this already, but the guy had me questioning what I believed about Yoders.

I have never used a Smokin Brothers smoker, but do own a Yoder 640. Just comparing the weights of the two; a Smokin Brothers 24 weighs in at 175 lbs. the same size Yoder, the 640, weighs in at 335 lbs. That might say something about the steel used in construction. I know the Yoder is built like a tank. Not taking anything away from the other, but it is one consideration.

Yes, and that's a big reason I'm looking towards buying a Yoder. The idea of buying one that will last many, many years is very appealing.

Me personally would go with the Yoder.

Look at Blaz'N Grill Works too I have the Grand Slam and it's built solidly, I think it has some nice features. I started out with Yoder being my choice, but I'm real happy with Blaz'N.

I'm not sure you really need a tank to smoke in a pellet grill. I was looking at Blaze n Grills and Yoder, but will probably go for something lighter.

I'd be interested to know what you're leaning towards, if anything, right now.

I went with GMG for size and electronics. It’s well-built and has a lot of volume. I think that it is thinner, steel-wise, but it’s built well.

Maybe better margins for that guy with the Smokin Bros?

The thought definitely crossed my mind. At the very least, I got to put my hands on a Yoder, finally.

Yoder has an incredible track record. Their fire pots are different. Bigger and not a standard fits all thing. Which an SB has. I'm not sure it that's the case on all models.
