I would strongly lean toward LSG, its a bespoke cooker with lots of thoughtful design. The Yoder is obviously a solid cooker and has remained mostly unchanged for years and the current version its the best its ever been... I just feel the LSG is the better pooper of the two.

Tough choice they are both outstanding. Here is a review from a fellow Pit member On LSG. He may chime in later.

As an LSG 20 x 40 owner I highly recommend it. I'm sure the Yoder is fine, but the LSG is a wonderfully made unit. The burn pot technology sets it apart from any other pellet pooper on the market.Last edited by CaptainMike; July 10, 2026, 06:23 PM.

It is a difficult choice, but I don't think you can go wrong. I expect you'll find that those of us who own the Yoder 640s will tell you we like it and those who have the LSG machine will tell you they like it. Whatever you choose, enjoy it.

- If not cooking outdoors, I am cooking on the stovetop with my 14" carbon steel wok, 12" CI skillet, or in the oven with my two Lodge CI pizza pans, or two dutch ovens. I've also got a nifty Lodge carbon steel grill pan that rocks for veggies outdoors.
I imagine it depends on his budget. Both are great cookers. I have never talked to anyone with a Yoder here where I live that doesn't love it. I only know folks with LSG through the Pit.

Both great choices. I own a Yoder 640s and really enjoy it. If I were buying now, I’m sure either would suit me just fine. I do also own another cooker by LSG and both are are well built. Only concern is how soon he wants to receive it. My Yoder was here in a jif, but my LSG took months ship.

SnS 22" kettle, 22" WSM with Pit Viper, 36" LSG pellet pooper
24" Blackstone griddle, 6 Gallon Cajun Fryer.
50K BTU wok burner.
I don't have any hands on experience with the Yoder, but I can't say enough good things about the LSG. It's expensive, you have to wait for it to ship, and I would absolutely buy it again if I had to do it all over again.
