GE announces new indoor pellet smoker

After a crowdfunding run in 2022, GE Appliances' indoor smart smoker is now available for $1,000.

Sounds good, but I'm hesitant as I've seen those cherry red lips of carbon monoxide poisoning. I guess I should look at it more closely, but since my smoker is about 12 feet out my door. I'll take safety every time. I realize I am overly paranoid about such things, but think anyone considering should.. consider...at least have a CO monitor in the vicinity. (Edited to CO, Huskee is correct, I typed too fast and too automatically. CO2 is ok.)

You cannot have too many CO detectors. You should have them everywhere like you do smoke detectors. Wise!

BTW, CO = carbon monoxide, poison. CO2 = carbon dioxide, which we breathe out.

CO2 = carbon dioxide. CO = carbon dioxide lite. Less taste, more killing.

whats the saying about a fool and his money?

I cant wrap my brain around this. For a grand you can get a well above average cooker. For a few hundred you can get a well-above average cooker and have money left over for cold-weather gear and still come out ahead (see cold weather clothing thread).

Yeah, and no way to use external probes without violating the very hopefully sealed cooking chamber. Somehow I smell a lawsuit instead of pecan…

I find it fascinating that GE, a company ranking in the top 35 largest American companies, crowd funded this appliance. Are they no longer selling enough light bulbs and other appliances?

Why use your own money when you can use someone else's money..

Crowd funding creates a buzz about a product that makes it seem like it's something new and exciting. Misen did the same thing with their carbon steel pans, and I'm pretty sure all the technology for carbon steel pans has been around long enough that they weren't blazing a new trail.

GE Appliances isn’t a US company anymore. https://www.cnet.com/home/kitchen-an...ongs-to-haier/

Under no circumstances would I do something remotely like this. That kind of combustion belongs outdoors or in a properly ventilated fireplace/hearth, full stop. And for big bucks?? Not even.

They probably crowd funded and will manage it through so many shell companies so that they will have no liability should anything go wrong.

Where do the smoke go? Is it like the space saving microwaves that has a filter but doesn't have a real vent?

I wonder if it will auto-disable a smoke detector while in use.

This may be just the trick for apartment dwellers.

              LOL, you may be correct.

I would imagine their target market are people that haven't smoked anything and that will be dangerous. I would recommend that anybody considering this thing just to buy a bottle of liquid smoke, a lot safer.

Denver news just ran a video on this. Looks like they use an electronic precipitator to eliminate the smoke. This will be interesting.

You lost me at GE. I’ve never had a GE appliance last long in our old house so I didn’t even look at any when we moved.

We had a GE gas range that we loved and it lasted a long time. Everyone's mileage varies I guess.

No way I'd bring that thing in my house. I nope nobody gets hurt or killed by it.

GE should donate one to AR for some good-faith testing.

If it works as they say, then good on them.
              If not, ...

I can hear it now, "We're testing this now, but Max is no longer responding to emails or texts. Final review delayed"

I will get a demo of this at CES next week. It is actually on the market already, introduced by FirstBuild as The Arden Indoor Smoker. I expect to see other interesting products as well.

I just read another article about this and it indicates that this unit doesn't use very many pellets.
In other words it's not trying to heat with pellets, just smoke.

So maybe this is no different than a smoking tube on steroids.

IF this thing is safe, it will be a game-changer for apartment dwellers.
