You might try getting a 4g phone and use it only for the grill. You will only need WI fi to connect phone.

Setting up a 2.4 ghz Wi-Fi for my Pellet Grill issue

>> One issue with this is the system we use seems to fluctuate between 2.4 and 5 ghz.
For the mesh unit that's closest to the grill:- is it in the kitchen, perhaps near a microwave or near a cordless phone (assuming you still use that)
- is it in the open or inside a cabinet?
- what type of house material is between the mesh and the grill (brick, distance, windows, etc)

I hate to say it, but the mesh hardware that you're using gets less than stellar reviews. You may find your money better spent if you simply cut your losses and upgrade to a higher-quality, more stable brand.

Yeah I’m thinking a different set of hardware could help

That was my thought too. I have learned as well that networking gear is not a place to use non-brand names. I had a ton of extenders, networking gear etc that I pretty much gave away after it was all replaced by the Orbi mesh which immediately fixed all of my connections issues.

Weber Summit

I remember having the same problem when I installed my mesh network, I did get things working using a old phone the was only 2.4 or that you could choose 2.4 or 5.0, set up the grill and then when using my newer devices it does all work.

@Baltimorelger, if you are not computer, network, wifi, nas guru like me I would recommend you geek squad it. I have never heard of the brand equipment you designated in your earlier post. I would say it is probably junk but I do not want to be rude. I hear tplink is good but i am an asus guy myself. Also I would recommend you have your equipment moved out of the basement. I can not image a worse place except inside a metal file cabinet. I actually saw that once. You should get the main wifi unit up as high as possible.
Oh, btw, mesh wifi is probably one of the best things that happened to wifi for larger homes and trying to use wifi outside your home.

Very fond of my NetGear ORBI AC220 Tri-Band WiFi system. I don't think it's available, but it has a dedicated 2.4 and two 5 channels with two dedicated backhauls. Works a dream with my thermometer and my Joule, regardless of where they are.
The newer version is insanely expensive, so I wouldn't recommend. I guess I bought into ORBI at the right moment. If I were buying today, it would be the Eero 6. With WiFi 6, you shouldn't have the same issue. I'm surprised it's an issue with 5, as 5 is backwards compatible. Depending on what speeds you get delivered to the house, it might be worth going with the Pro rather than the standard.
Mesh is a friggin lifesaver in my 90+ year old Chicago Bungalow, brick and mortar walls and kooky internal angles. Previous owner had a better setup, with a switch in the basement and cat5e through the house. But he didn't do anything outside, which was my impetus for getting the Orbi.
