MAK 2 star -- super smoker box

After more years than I can think about in storage in my garage, I have my MAK 2 star out on the pellet grill lineup! I burnt out the old pellets yesterday (ran like a champ!) and cleaned up the cover. Got to looking at the paint -- it has peeled away in spots. I scraped it down and sanded the rusty spots and the edge where the paint was holding. Bought some Rustoeum grill paint to give #23 a facelift. Ordered a cheapo cover to replace the old one.

Has anyone gotten the super smoker box that goes over the warmer box on the right side of the cooker? https://makgrills.com/product/super-smoker-box/

I've got MCS for this addon!

Thanks! Good info. I'll have to think upon this if I really need it...

I have a 2 Star MAK. It smokes very well. Recently I tried using some grill grates like the ones in the picture below. The grates were great! I did some nice rib eye steaks. Got a very good sear. I bought the grill grates for my Weber kettle years ago but never used them. A buddy of mine told me he used the grill grates on his MAK. So, dug them out a box in the garage and gave them a spin. Glad I did. They get quite hot and give you a much hotter surface to grill on than does just the MAK grate.

Back to the cold smoker box. I am curious as to what meats, fish or cheese do you use it for? I just dropped $500 on the new MAK controller so my new toys budget is exhausted for now. But if the box works well, I may keep it in mind for a future upgrade.

Grill Grates on the MAK work well! Did you know you can turn them over for a decent flat cooking area with smoke holes?

Personally I prefer the idea of MAK searing grates EXCEPT for the flat side of grill grates, those are handy for sure. I threw my grill grates awat as they weren't custom fit for the MAK and slid all over the place. I haven't done any hanging items yet, it's on my to do list. However it extended my cheese smoking season by multiple months. I also will switch jerky from the main grill to the SSB after a couple hours and I can let it ride in the SSB overnight without having to check on it

I got one with my MAK 2 Star in 2020. I don't use it very much but it does work well. I've used it for Smoking Sausage. I'd sell mine if you're interested CandySueQ . I'll PM you.
