Mak, operating without flame zone panel below grate

Dis a deep clean today on 2 Star. As I had parts out, considered using it without the flame zone panel which is directly beneath the grates. Maybe put some sort of smoke tube on the flame zone funnel. Anyone fooled with this?

Just remember, the flame zone is what keeps the heat so even on a MAK.

There's a guy on the FB group that installed a door in the front of the MAK to slide wood chips or small splits next to the burn pot.

There are also a few who have installed a smoke daddy or other brand smoke generator.

I have put wood chunks on top of the fire pot diffuser thing before. I'm not sure there was any major difference.
