Glad it's available, it's a nice option for some folks who are looking for that.
Personally, I'd suspect it's like many other 'compromises' - it probably does multiple things fairly well, but none of them exceptionally. I could be wrong. For that kind of money, it better be spectacular. Interested to see how it works.
Price may be a little inflated now due to its being the only one of its kind and may come down a bit in the future. I was skeptical when I read the post, but it actually looks like pretty ingenious to me.
If you go through all the pictures available there are a number of new design features beyond the mixing of two fuel/burn formats. Also there are option features that will likely take that price listed even higher.
Well, the only cooker I don't have is a stick burner so.... maybe this will have to join the collection at some point. Gonna need a lot of my play stocks to do something though because I don't think my wife would allow another 5K+ grill purchase after MAK went the way it did.
You need a chubby little 30x48 patio offset, fully insulated. I'll meet ya halfway or something and we'll keep it under $5k. Easy to move around, compact footprint and lots of room.
It seems that often the internet is a place where folks exercise their negative thinking, being quick to point out what they perceive as problems, errors, bad ideas, and so on. Usually this is done by folks with no first hand experience, but plenty of imagination.
Let's draw one possible justification (of sorts) for this device. Often folks will decry the long cooking time of, let's say brisket, on an offset. They lament having to feed a new split of wood every so often visualizing losing sleep as a result. Using this cooker you could start the cook for a couple to few hours with your favorite wood splits knowing that the first hours are the most critical to laying on smoke flavor. Then, when you're ready for beddy-bye, kick it over to the pellet system and controller to work it's magic while you count sheep or whatever you dream about ( Panhead John , we don't need to know yours....please).
After smoking with their pellet smoker, the last thing I need is something that requires me to do anything other than watch what's happening on the fireboard app.
OTOH, a pellet grill / offset combination by LSG sounds like somebody took all my BBQ wildest dreams and chopped them up together into a single, glorious product. OTOH, at that price, unless a rich relative decides to die sometime soon, I'm pretty SOL.
