I am trying real hard not to order one of these. Btw - Greg of Ballistic BBQ (YouTube) did a recent vid about mixing wood chips in with pellets on his LSG, seemed impressed with the smoke output, looks promising.
Oh crap, now I have to wait 14 weeks! UG! I just ordered a 42" pellet grill, pretty stoked. I am a treager survivor and in counseling for that now. I am hoping the LSG actually adds smoke to the meat!
Any tips/tricks/special accessory advise from you-all?
GEON
Congrats on the new LSG.
I have the same one on order too. I'm down to a 9 week wait for mine.
As for tips, I have a couple...
I haven't done it yet, I plan on asking Chris if the can install the gasket on the lid, not the body.
I think it was Texas Blues BBQ video on Youtube that dripped grease on the lower gasket of his 20x36 when taking the meat out and it loosened up the gasket.
He removed it and put it on the lid to prevent that in the future.
Not sure how you plan on draining the grease, but this is my plan:
I have a Lowes close to me so I got these items there.
Get a 1-1/4" x 6" black pipe nipple.
I am going to drill and tap a hole in the middle of the pipe and thread a bolt into.
If you don't had a tap set, you can get a hose clamp, bend a piece of coat hangar to make a loop, and clamp it to the pipe.
Lowes has PitBoss 6" grease buckets with 6" liners.
You can then hang one on the screw (or hook) to catch the grease.
If you go this route, I would suggest getting the grease bucket and liners now, as they probably won't have them when your grill arrives in September.
Another thing that I'm not sure he will do, but I am going to ask Chris in if he can "not" put the holes in the deflector plate.
I have no use for the direct heat, as I have a gas grill for that.
Will make it easier to put foil the deflector plate for make cleanup easier.
Waiting on the grill make me feel like a kid waiting for Christmas. Haha
