    Malcolm Reed

Looks like Malcolm Reed is all in with Grilla Grills. This could be fun to watch.

He called it his new smoke house, and it's brick on the inside!

Malcolm seems like someone you'd just like to hang out with.

I would also be all in on that!!

Saw one of my favorite singer/song writers last year and he said, "this next song, y'all might think sounds a lot like that Kenny Chesney song on the radio. All I got to say is, if Kenny Chesney wants to buy your song, sell it to him".

It's not that I'm "not for sale". It's just that no one has offered.

Great setup, great Pitmaster. I've learned lots from him. Bottom line it is sponsors, that's what keeps it rolling.

Agreed, better to have sponsors than to have to keep your recipes behind a paywall.

Good for him. It is very difficult work to produce high-quality content consistently for years, so good to see that hard work is paying off.

I saw it too. Good for him. If i had the acreage I too would like to add a smokehouse. My wife would likely be on board too 🤪. Loves the food but not the actual smoke.

MAK grills, if you're reading this I don't currently do video content... but if you build me a Smokehouse loaded with all the MAK offerings I will...

Seriously though, good for Malcom and Grilla... and good for us consumers of quality BBQ content

It has been really fascinating to see how the "influencer" social media marketing and advertising has matured over the last several years. Companies and marketing firms are paying big money for sponsorships because they work. A Youtube channel with 1 million+ subscribers generally has consistent views that exceed the reach of much of traditional advertising. And much of that viewership identifies with and implicitly trusts the influencer, unlike the typical random celebrity spokesperson of traditional ads.

It's a new world, as they say.

At my university, in our business school, we've offered digital marketing courses for some time and just recently codified them into a minor/concentration. I would not be surprised if in a year or two, it becomes a formal degree. (This takes time, we can't just make anything a degree; they have to be approved by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.)

I fully admit to being swayed by influencers, especially so-called BBQ Lifestyle Brands (like Malcom). For example, if I am truly honest with myself, one of the reasons I buy Meat Church seasonings (other than they taste really good!) is that part of Matt Pittman's "brand" has a strong Texas vibe and well.... I identify with that.

Very interesting topic. Guys like Malcolm and Baby Back Maniac have definitely influenced my choices.

I love Malcom. He gets genuinely excited about the dishes he is preparing and his enthusiasm always gives my spirit a lift.

Not an in depth look at the new vertical, but it is shown without the cover around 1:16 mark in the new video. It isn't up yet on the Grilla Grills website, but it does look like it has a fair amount of capacity.

I like Malcom Reed, but you can use any other BBQ guy you like. :-)

Malcom always says he's using Killer Hogs rub, but then he goes on to say "You can use any rub you like." My friends and I like that. Classic Malcom.

(For my 50th birthday, my wife contacted Malcom and told him I was a big fan. He sent me a personalized card with some Killer Hogs merchandise. I love that guy.)

I feel the same way as the supportive comments. I am a Grilla customer and have have enjoyed a few of Malcolm ‘s videos. I hope they have success and provide good products and services for us the consumers. I do hope Malcolm takes care of his health as well. I really enjoy cooking and eating, but overdoing it can cause serious problems as we all know.

I do like his rubs. His The Hot Rub is what I always use on pork butt and I use an early version of his Grande Gringo (see https://pitmaster.amazingribs.com/fo...-seasoning-rub) for my grilled chicken tacos.

What also exceptionally cool about Malcom is that he has been in this, essentially forever. He started putting videos online in 2008 or so. Over winter break in 2019 I binged-watched his videos and it was remarkable to see how his videos improved over time. He and Rachelle are entirely self-taught in this regard.

I used to teach digital video production and for such a small team to improve their quality -- video, audio, how to shoot at night, editing, etc -- on their own is very impressive. (I even had a brief discussion with Rachelle over email about it a few years ago, which was very cool!)

I certainly owe much to Malcom in my "formative" BBQ years. In fact, the chicken racks I use nearly weekly I got from him. Of the rubs.....and I picked up my set of Dexter-Russel knives from him, which I absolutely love.

I haven't ordered from his site in awhile as his rubs are available to me locally. Perhaps some of the greatest praise I can give is that you know you are doing something right when Buc-ee's is carrying your rubs!

+1 on his rubs and I use his Vinegar BBQ sauce on pulled pork. I too have learned from his videos.
