What to expect from a FEC120?
A FEC120 has come from sale within a reasonable drive of my home and I’m thinking about making the investment!
My current cooker is a Yoder YS1500s, it’s a great piece but the inconsistent temperatures drive me crazy. I often cook for a crowd and guests have become accustomed to doggie bags, I need a big cooker. I’m hoping for a more consistent temperature and product especially when it’s cold or windy outside.
Hmmmm....18 posts and MCS has kicked in already. Yep, you fit in here just fine.
I don't know much about that one but it does look like a beast, a lot of room on the inside. For the price of that I would hope it keeps temps pretty close. Let us know when you pull the trigger and post pics of your cooks. Good luck!
They must make really good units because they appear difficult to find “used.” Whatever its other merits, a well-made, digital electric smoker has some interest for me lately, considering “hold” times—looking for lowest temp settings for this. These specs note a lowest temp of 130—-but 140 might be best food safety low hold temp. Hopefully the thing can cook like a banshee, (given retail cost) in addition to mere warming service.
We don’t see many Cookshack cookers up here and clean used ones are few and far between.
My YS1500s is a great cooker but I would never use it to “hold” as sometimes the temp is all over the place.
The FEC100 would suit my needs but I think having the fire box outside the cook chamber would justify the extra cost of the FEC120.
