If you look out the back window and see me chillin, don't be alarmed. I am harmless.

I feel you brother. My project needed to do the city hoop jumping too. Fortunately, my architect and contractor were top notch and shielded me from the hassle. Your project came out very nice. Where in Cali are you located?

I'm in Redwood City, south of San Francisco. I'm a little over 3 miles from the San Andreas fault, so there's that. The big problem is that we've been on a big building boom here when the city rezoned to allow for some taller buildings. The building department had to hire a bunch new folks, who were dealing with 8 story commercial buildings, and I guess they viewed my project through the same lens. 15 years ago when we remodeled, we got away with submitting hand drawn plans. The good ole days.

One of the big pluses of this project is that I got the build an observatory. The wife never would let me build a dedicated building the back, but I was able to duel use this project. The one corner of the kitchen is a 7x7 foot room (the door is on the backside). The roof rolls off over the room.

I'm using a sliding gate motor to open the roof.

I have a tall pier installed in the center, and the scope is tucked up under the roof when stored.

I bought a used motorized pier extender that can push up the mount a couple more feet, but I'm missing a part that I haven't gotten around to replacing. Turns out with trees and the neighbor's house, my horizon is impinged enough that it doesn't matter. I use this strictly for astrophotography, so I don't ever actually look through the scope directly, so the fact it's 8+ feet up isn't an issue. I've only recently gotten it all rigged up. It's a given in my hobby that as soon as you get some new equipment, it'll be cloudy for a month or two.

Beautiful space!!! If I didn't live in the Northeast, and have a seasonal camp, I'd love to do something like that. But since I'll be paying for the camper for another 14 years, we spend every weekend camp is open there. And since most of the rest of the year the weather sucks here, would never be able to justify spending what you spent on it. Which is probably close to what I paid for my house, by the looks of it! Lol. But I truly hope you enjoy it, and I'm sure you worked your ass off for it. So cheers to you brother!!!!!

Soooo pretty! I'd get in my jammies, grab a sleeping bag, and sleep out there!
