    Deck Stoop and Steps Build

We had a sliding glass door installed in the back of the house last year for easier access to the back deck. The only problem is that it's a 21 inch drop from the door to the deck. I finally got around to building a solution to that problem so we can actually use the deck. It's almost finished.

I'm glad to see that you stepped up to fix the problem.

I knew you would stoop to that...

Nice. A little math and it all works out.

Impressive... We had a similar issue although our drop (7.5") was a lot less than what you're dealing with.
      Very nicely done sir.

Make sure you seal or at least paint where that wood to wood contact is or the deck will rot under that. There is stuff you can paint on, but it's sloppy. Joist tape is what I used, but it's more expensive and supposedly zip tape works just as well. I'm sure one of our carpentry focused members may have a better solution.

So I got the railings installed. Now I have to go to Lowe's and but some balusters.

Great work. That was a helluva drop before you built the stoop/step. You can put the parachute away.

Dewesq55 My dad worked with machinery and was an all around handyman. He could repair/build just about anything. My brother inherited his skills. I on the other hand, need instructions to screw in a light bulb. Kudos to the blue collar men and women of the world.

TripleB - I think you are probably underestimating your capabilities, BUT, it's good for a man to know, and be comfortable with, his limitations (applies to women, too).
