Need help with my gas problems

I thought that would get your attention 😆. I ran a gas line to my cabana when I built it and just had my gas company (propane) connect the line to my wok burner, pizza oven, and griddle. The wok burner requires high pressure - more than the regulator at my tanks provides. Is there a work-around here, or am I going to have to go back to using the portable tank with the regulator that came with the wok burner. Tagging Attjack here because he has one too. Pics to illustrate the setup.

Well, I was gonna follow this upon reading the title. Not necessary now.

I was thinking about Gas X but I came to my senses.

Can you run high pressure to the patio? Then can you use individual regulators at the cookers?

You just beat me to it, but yes, that is going to be the best solution.

I'll have to ask the gas company.

This is how they did it for my patio. Pool heater needs high pressure but the cookers don’t. They installed separate regulators to provide the right amount of pressure for each device.

The work around is to put a high pressure regulator at the tanks and then low pressure regulator at the other two outlets. There are other unsafe workarounds but since they are that, i will not even mention them.

Work with your gas supplier. Mine has been helpful in solving problems with my camper.

Was just thinking about the length of your line run and the diameter of the pipe. LP drops pretty fast.

      It's a 35 foot run

That's not very far but everything has to be sized correctly. We changed our electric range to gas, the plumber said that we couldn't add anything else once that was installed without major changes. Our boiler is on that line too. That is an LP set up. Talk to you gas supplier.

I never thought of powering the wok burner with probiotics. Sounds expensive 😂

I love your gas setup and hope to do the same some day. I would think if you could just plumb in the regulator that came with your wok burner that would do it but I don't really know. I'll be interested in hearing your solution.

      I'll keep you posted.

I think you know the answer - higher pressure regulator at the tanks, to match the wok burner requirements, then a step down for the other two devices. Wondering though if there are issues with using quick disconnects on high pressure lines. Hopefully not!

According to the manufacturer there are issues with quick connects on high pressure lines.

I agree with the post on contacting your gas company. When mistakes happen here they can be costly in more ways than one. I also do agree with others in regard to the regulators at the tanks but would surely get your gas company involved.

I just got off the phone with the gas contractor. They are coming next Wednesday and will plumb the regulator that came with the wok burner into the new line they installed. I'm assuming they will also plumb the other end of the line without the quick-connect, but we'll see. I'm not tempted to DIY this or anything else pertaining to gas.

I've always lived an adventurous spirit in this area, but then again, grew up helping my dad with HVAC and plumbing projects... If you don't know your way around iron pipe and such, you don't want to mess with any of that. As a caveat, you've not LIVED until you've learned to put thread on iron pipe... then drug that stuff through a 2' high crawlspace putting it all together (and hanging it) with pipe dope.

Glad you found the right, safe solution! :-) I'm sure you are anxious to just get everything in place and get started with your new setup! have fun.

hoovarmin you are kinda inspiring me to put a quick connect on my outdoor grill line that had a gas grill 20 years ago, and convert one of my grills over to natural gas. Right now the valve is just turned off, and I bought a cap at Lowes to put over the line when I got rid of the natural gas grill way back when. I didn't have a quick connect at the time - just a 10 foot flexible hose to the grill, threaded on at each end.

Only problem for me is that the natural gas hook up is 20 feet from my Weber Genesis II, which cannot be converted without voiding the warranty, and 80 to 100 feet from where the Camp Chef griddle lives, which CAN be converted... its behind the fireplace at the end of the house, in an end yard, next to the trash and recycling bins, haha.

Maybe I need to get a Smoke Vault, since I know those can be converted over, and it could be nice to have an infinite fuel supply for a smoker...

The other choice is running pipe like you did and burying it, and that is too much time and money...

jfmorris one of my primary purposes in being on this forum is to inspire MCS. But it seems to backfire on me. As for the line, it helped to have a very strong son who needed some spending cash at the time that trench had to be dug. Especially since he ran into the over poured foundation and had to sledge it for about 9 feet of the trench.
